The first meeting was called to order by temporary chairman,
Glenn Prosser, on April 28,19.75 at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Build-
ing meeting room.
Mr. Prosser related that Alexis McKinney, who is Vice Chairman
of 'the state Centennial -Bicentennial Committee, sent him various forms,
a guideline booklet, and recognition forms. Mr. Prosser then opened
the meeting for nominations to elect officers.

It was suggested that two Vice Chairman be chosen by taking the first.
and second place people of nominations no less than four.

Ruth Stauffer and Bob. Nobus were elected.
The Chairman, Fred Steffens, suggested that the next meeting
include adoption of bylaws. Also, that the current officers should
work through the summer and another election occur in October. Mr.
Steffens also suggested that meetings be called once a month. The
third Monday of each month was agreed upon. Bob Wagner made a motion
and Ginger Adrian seconded. The next meeting will be Monday, May 19
at 7:30 p.m. in the Municipal Building.
Mr. Steffens then explained that a previous Centennial Committee
had existed over a year ago, but it disbanded. In February recommenda-
tions from different areas in town were gathered to form this 29 member
commission. (see list) Other groups and clubs will plan activities
and this commission will vote on those ideas and submit forms, etc.
This is to be a WORKING COMMITTEE --- and people should resign
if they can't come and be willing to participate.
Mr. Steffens said he_will send an application in the next couple.
days for our town to be recognized as a Centennial -Bicentennial City.
Itwill take 4-6 weeks. A flag and various items will be sent. At
that time a kick-off celebration will occur. (perhaps at Memorial Day
Trailridge Opening)
ADHOC Meetings were mentioned. Other events have already been
brought up and asked about. There is an IBM print out sheet with.stat:e
celebrations listed by city.
Chairman Fred Steffens presented eight concrete events already
planned:
1. Western Justice (Jim Dunham)
2. Rodeo Parade & Horse Shows (Glenn Prosser)
3. Style Show by Historical.Society (Ruth Stauffer)
(This was ruled out because it was too soon --
May 1. Marge Wolpert then advised that a larger
event is planned for next year and will be later
submitted.
4. Fine Arts Guild Musical (Charles Chaffin) 1976 -
a 5 day show-- $12,000 has been asked for)
5. Antique Car Show (Bob Mobus) mid July 1975
6. Beard Growing Contest. (Moses Swindler) 1976
7. Hands Across the Nation - Memorial Day (Dwight
Hamilton) Mr. Hamilton noted that a specific
procedure must, be followed and that he'd work on it.
8. 4th of July Fireworks (Gene Dykes - Jaycees)
Other events mentioned were the Art Fair in the National Park
the last week of July 1975, the 60th. anniversary celebration of the
National Park, and the Radio' Station's plans to have daily factual
bits on Estes Park history. More

Ruth Stauffer made the motion and Margaret Houston seconded.
Mr. Prosser informed the group that the Town was willing to
supply us with stationary. It was suggested that the Centennial and
the Bicentennial logos he added to the letterheads, by Bob Mobus.
A further discussion occured that this commission include the
total area, and not just the town limits --- hence the name, ESTES
PARK AREA CENTENNIAL BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION. The motion was made
by Margaret Houston and seconded by Chris Switzer.
The next meeting in May will include reports on what type of
projects will qualify, etc.
It was then brought up that, minimual funding was necessary for
postage, copying letters, paper, etc. After discussion a motion was
made by Gene Dykes to ask the Town Board for $250 plus zerox priviaeges.
Second by Ruth Stauffer. All in. favor. Gene Dykes agreed to present
this to the Town Board at their meeting next Tuesday, May6.
Margaret. Houston and Jim Dunham offered mimeograph supplies and
the use of a machine.
As a result of this financial need, John Gardner made a motion
to elect Gene Dykes as Treasurer, with Larry Zellner seconding. The
nominations ceased and Mr. Dykes was unanimously chosen.
Mr. Steffens then ended the meeting -- Bob. Wagner moved to adjorn
and Ruth Stauffer seconded -- 9p.m.

The Executive Board of Officers met after the regular meeting.
Chairman Steffens asked the secretary to type minutes and mail
a "call" to each member of the commission the week before each upcoming
monthly meeting. Before the May meeting a special report will also
be included in the mailed minutes.
Al Mencher, from the newspaper, told the officers that he would
ask for suggestions from the community, have them mailed to his office,
and tally up the suggestions.
Chairman Steffens asked the Vice Presidents to look into various
projects before the May meeting.

Department of Defence Displays
Fred Steffens agreed to look into the Freedom Train with the idea
of having juniors from the high school go down to Denver both in. '75
and '76 with\rides arranged through the Lions Club. Also, he will
check out the Dept. of Defence display of 3 vans for various branches

of the service to come to Estes Park.
Bob Mobus asked if a sign could be put up at the edges of Town
and at the Visitor Center/Chamber about Centennial Bicentennial
events. The Idea of posters was also brought. up. The suggestion
of a calendar of events being distributed via the Chamber was also
discussed.
Ruth Stauffer brought up an idea for "kick off" celebration.
A skit might be presented by the Historical Society of people who
lived in Estes Park 100 years ago. Her idea was to do this at the
Lazy B Ranch in early July. She will look into this further and
report in May.
The next: Executive Committee Meeting, will take place before
the. regular meeting for the commission -- 7p.m. (- hour before)
on May 19, 1975 at the Municipal Building.
