The officers met at 7 U.L. On May 19, 1975 before the regularly
scheduled meeting of the Estes Park Centennial -Bicentennial Commission.
Fred Steffens, Gene Dykes, Chris Switzer,. and. Ruth Stauffer were present.
n general discussion occurred of what would be on the agenda for
the regular meeting. It: was suggested that the officers (excluding
the secretary and the dhairaan) be chairman of sub -committees under
main categories of: Pestivale, Horizons, and Heritage. Members of
these sub -committees would be. assigned to visit groups and work to.
help people with events, Etc. ' he. secretary was asked to prepare this
list and have copies ready at the next meeting.
Gene Dykes brought up the Cuestion of insurance and he
offered to check with several agencies and report back next month.

up, discussed, and voted on at the regular meeting.
It. was suggested that the secretary send a special "call" to officers
to remind them of meeting at 7 p.m. before the regularly scheduled
meeting. The secretary was also asked to get a calendar so that events
could be recorded.
The second meeting of the Bstes _?ark Centennial -Bicentennial
Commission het at the Municipal 'Building on ic:ay 19, 1975 at 7:30 p.m.
(See attendance record) .k membership list and a by-laws sheet was
passed out.
The reading ofthe minutes was dispensed withsince n0e all members

,he treasurer reported that the Town .:Gard approved ' 250 expense
money for the commission. However, a checking account is not advisable
since the monies are to come out of "Petty cash" with 650 given to
C_ene Dykes to start with. Vochures must be signed for expenses. .'.ore
money will be allocated as the need arises S_^om Dale Hill.

The'chairman then asked that members fo through the by-laws sheet
step by step with discussion and voting on each portion.
The question arose about new members for the commission. It was
suggested that names be submitted with information about the person
and that it should be explained that this is a "working committee.",
The name would then be decided upon by the commission as a group.
A motion was made by Ruth Stauffer to adopt the by-laws, second
by Gene Dykes. The following discussions ammended and added to parts
of the by laws -- please see new by-laws'(June 1975).
Under old business, ;Moses Swindler announced plans for a BEARD
GROWING CONTEST. There are 12 kinds of beards and mustaches. There-
fore, a variety of prizes could be awarded, such as: A prize for the
longest beard, a prize for the best looking man with a beard, a prize
for a "famous person's" beard, etc. He suggested that, prizes come
from shops and perhaps some cash prizes. The contest is to take place
over a one year period -- starting and ending in the fall at the Elk
Festival. (Sept. '75 - Sept. '76)
Bob Gaines suggested that a potluck picnic take place in Bond Park
with events like races and an old fashioned band. Possibly different
clubs in town could furnish food. It was also suggested that a Style
Show occur at this time.
Bob Mobus then reported on the Antique Car Parade. Jerry Ross was
contacted and the conference will take place July 22-26. 0n the 22nd
Western Justice will do a special performance for the conference people.
There will be a 1932-1948 fashion show and luncheon for the conference
people. The auestion arose if shops in town would donate prizes for
the fashion show. Bob Mobus expressed negative feelings to this idea
and the group agreed. However, 300 copies of maps and other local
information will be given to the conference people -- plus Dwight Ham-
ilton offering 300 brochures anout. Trailridge and the Park. Marge
Wolpert offered 300 Historical Society Museum brochures also. The
antique car parade will occur on July 25 at 9 a.m. before the cars go
up on Trailridge. k police escort will assist, the parade through town..
Al Mencher offered to draw a special map for conference people and
Larry Zellner agreed to run it off on his press. Ruth Stauffer moved
that the Antique Car Parade become a project: -- second by Marge Wolpert.
Bob; Mobus also reported on WESTERN JUSTICE. A form was filled
out and submitted with June 16 through September 1 at 5:15 p.m. as
the scheduled dates and time.
Brenda Blanchar reported that .-at halftime- during football season -
next fall the high school band can use the Centennial -Bicentennial
as their theme. The -band is available before Nay 30 and after September
10. Mr. Flynn, of the high school, said that next year a float would
be entered in the Rodeo Parades. Another subject brought up is that
a "model of Estes Park" is being worked on. Apossible project will be
the "Handicap Trail" along Fish Creek that Mr. Clark (Biology teacher)
and students are working on as a beautification project. Brenda will
report on this later and will fill out a form.
Brenda Blanchar and John 0wnby also•mentior_ed the booklet that
seventh graders have organized on Estes Park History. More details
are needed so Brenda and John will encourage Mr. Flynn to attend the
next meeting.
In regard to the Horizon Project, sone members did not receive
phone calls for the project,used on the original application. (Hospital
Project)
Bob Gaines announced that KSIR radio has a 60sec. spot at 8:20 a.m..
every day on Estes Park history written by Ruth Stauffer.
Other questions and suggestions arising for projects are: Ambulance/
Quota Club, the Hospital, Booklet on historical articles from the Trail -
Gazette.
Under new business, Dwight Hamilton talked about Rocky it. Nat'l
Park projects:
1. Continue Living History of Hozwarth Ranch
(4 employees)
2. Increasing History Walks (Moraine. Park - Willow
Park)
3. Art Show - Hidden Valley, July 25 - Aug. 2
4. Modest Celebration of 60th Anniversary of the
Park - Sept. 4.
5. Two rangers wearing 1920 uniforms (Bear Lake
and Horse Patrol on Old Pall River Rd.)
6. '76: summer seminars - history and Indian culture
.7. Art. Seminar. '75 - Herb Thompson
8. Peoples of 1776 - from Washington D. C. office
- August 31, 1976.
9. Washington slide sets/narration - Jan.'76 -
possibly for the schools.
Dwight Hamilton agreed to submit forms that were filled out through his
office. A motion was made by Al Mencher to accept all 9 projects,
seconded by Chris Switzer.
Ruth Stauffer mentioned a Historical Society Chuckwagon Supper at
the Lazy B on July 3. Ten minutes at the end of the regular program
will introduce the men and women of '75, '76, and '77 from Estes Park.
Bob Gaines made a motion to pass this idea as a project, John Ownby seconde
Chris Switzer moved that Ruth Deffenbaugh (Library) be nominated
to the commission, second by Ruth Stauffer.
Bob, Mobus mentioned that on June 4 the Chamber would present a
program for summer employees at the Village Theater from 10a.m. - noon.
Fred Steffens was to make up a•report to present at this time.
Charles ,Chaffin reported on the Denver Symphony._ A possible date
of Sunday, July 20 will be requested. Julian Ebersold move this be a
project., Bob Gaines seconding. Mr. Chaffin will report on this further
at the next meeting.
Larry Zellner brought up PR work. News releases are to be handled
by the chairman. Mr. Zeilner offered his lists and suggested that travel
agencies, etc. be sent information.
The question of appropriate stationary was brought up. At a later
date some will be printed. Por now, the group agreed that what the sec-
retary is using ,is o.k.
Ruth Stauffer brought up the singing group, "Up With America"
(Sounds of America). Dr. Hoxer of.Children's Hospital will be contacted,

On August 2 the group will sing at the YLCA.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:25 p.m. with the group breaking
up into sub -committees. The committee chairman will report at the
next meeting.
