ESTES PARK CENTENNIAL -BICENTENNIAL COMMISSION
November 5, 1975
The 7th meeting of the commission came to order on October 20
at 7:35 p.m. The minutes were approved as circulated. The Treasurer
reported a balance to date of $202.79. Roll was taken - please see
attendance record.
It was proposed that Corky Rogers be reinstated to the commission.
All were in agreement. Also a new member, Rusty Michael, was voted
in. A letter of dismissal is to be sent to John Gardiner because
of accumulated absences.
REPORTS
F. 0. Stanley Day - A letter to Gene Dykes from Kodak indicated
that they would not help. It was suggested that O'Malley be
contacted at the Stanley Hotel.
Beard Growing Contest - no report
Fund Raising - Mary Rosener asked that three more people be
added for helping to give programs. Discussion occured during
the meeting on various aspects of "Cents for Centennial."
A motion was made later in the meeting : from now through.
1976, the canisters be in restaurants and businesses, and
the month of Dec. '75 be a funding month of service clubs.
Historical Markers - a more complete report will be given in Novem-
ber. However, lots of details were discussed - costs for
materials, redwood versus painted signs, upkeep, etc. All
members were enthused about the project.
Bicentennial Films - Dick Hillyer is chairman. Free films can
be obtained from the state commission. Dwight Hamilton also
mentioned Nat'l Park films: Independence - Pemberton House -
formation of army and navy, Minute Man - To Keep Our Liberty,
Saratoga - Checkmate on the Hudson, Federal Hall - Bill of
Rights, Federal'rHall - founding fathers and views on state
versus federal rights. (These films available now with others
possibly in the future secretary has a list.)
Living Trails - Bill Geurds will work on it further. (Gene Dykes
also.) There is the question of a physical site, funding,
improvement costs, upkeep and service, and training. Ward
Crowley mentioned that Lions Club has a project to work with
the blind this year.
A suggestion was made that the helicopter pad be painted with
the Centennial symbol. Gene Dykes said he'd bring up the matter to
the group.
It was reported by Ruth Stauffer that the Historical Spciety
has raised $10,000 and the Town has given $20,000. At the November
meeting of the state commission the Historical Society will ask for
matching funds.
Last month it was suggested that the terms of officers be six
months with October and April elections. The motion was voted on
and passed.
Next, the issue of quorm was voted upon. Instead of needing 50%
of members present, an amendment, passed (15-3) that those members
attending a regularly called meeting shall constitute a quorum.
