October 31, 1940
The meeting was called .to order by President Gooch at
the Hayden Realty Company office at 2:15 P. M. Directors
present were Gooch, Hayden, Brainard, Hall, Preston and
Lewis.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read and
approved as read. -
Treasurer Brainard read his annual report, which is
attached and made a part of these minutes. This report
was discussed at length, and Brainard was thanked for the
completeness of the report, and for his part in making it
one of the most favorable in recent years.
It was agreed. that Pro. Chick Williams had done very
unsatisfactory work the previous season, and that he not
be re-employed. The application of Chick Shores of
Hannibal Missouri was discussed at length, and the secretary
was instructed by motion, duly seconded and carried, to
write him a proposition; Salary to be $50.00 a month and
room and board at the Club for June, July, and August,
plus 25% of all green fees from $1.00 and 500 play above
the amount of $1,500.00. This would be in lieu of the
$50.00 bonus given Chick Williams attheend of the season,
otherwise the conitracts would be .substantially the same.
It was later decidedhe should also receive 25% of the NET
profits of the tournament or tournaments.
There. was discussion of adding horseshoe pitching
courts, shuffleboard courts, and enlarging the tennis
court; in an effort to develope the club as a popular center
for light sports. It was also suggested that National Park
naturalist lectures might be arrangedfor at the club one or
two evenings a wek, and square dances held. It was moved,
seconded and carried that. a.committee,.Gooch Chairman, Preston,
and Dave Canfield investigate the possibilities, and report
to the directors.
At the suggestion of Brainard, Pres. Gooch appointed
Wm. Dings to head a committee to investigate and make
recommendations for an educational andentertainment program
to improve tha caddy situation.
