1992 SPECIAL EVENT SEASON - CRITIOUE.
Longs Peak Scottish Highland Festival. Jim Durward, Festival
President, addressed the Committee on the 15th Annual Festival held
September 10-13. Dr. Durward suggested the following items be
considered during the budget process: portable restroom
facilities; extension of the water irrigation line and grass to the
lake and southeast corner of the softball field; and
dedication/maintenance of the roadway from the playground to
Community Drive. Discussion included the positive financial impact
to the Town provided by the Festival and funding availability, with
the Committee recommending Trustee Gillette, Staff members Klaphake
and Scott, and EVRPD Representatives conduct a study session to
determine goals and budget priorities for this event, reporting
their findings to the Committee when available.
Horse Shows. Director Scott reviewed attendance figures for the
Hunter Jumper, Arabian, Quarter Horse and Palomino, Paint,
Miniatures, Westernaires, and Lipizzan Horse Shows.
Americade. Town staff is assisting the current operator in
locating a local operator in an attempt to retain this event. The
Town's role is that of resource/support, not in operation.
Additional information will be provided in the near future.
Approximately 6,000 spectators attended the Wool Market which was
very successful; Rocky Mountain Folks Festival representatives
reported the event is still operating at a loss, however, they will
continue to promote the event for three (3) more years; the
Surprise Sale is scheduled October 10 and 11--staff urged all
merchants to participate.
Staff is considering adding a National Kite Fly Competition and
Bicycle Competition for the 1993 Season. The Department would
serve as support for both events, with minimum funding.
MEETING DATES - POTENTIAL CANCELLATION.
Director Scott reported that, pending agenda items, he anticipates
the November 26 and December 24 Committee meeting dates will be
cancelled.
There being no further business, Chairman Hix adjourned the meeting
at 9:10 A.M.
