RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Special Events Committee September 24, 1992 Committee: Attending: All Also Attending: Chairman Hix, Trustees Habecker and Gillette Trustee Aldrich, Town Administrator Klaphake, Special Events Director/Coordinator Scott and Hinze, Clerk O'Connor Absent: None Chairman Hix called the meeting to order at 8:31 A.M. 1992 SPECIAL EVENT SEASON - CRITIOUE. Longs Peak Scottish Highland Festival. Jim Durward, Festival President, addressed the Committee on the 15th Annual Festival held September 10-13. Dr. Durward suggested the following items be considered during the budget process: portable restroom facilities; extension of the water irrigation line and grass to the lake and southeast corner of the softball field; and dedication/maintenance of the roadway from the playground to Community Drive. Discussion included the positive financial impact to the Town provided by the Festival and funding availability, with the Committee recommending Trustee Gillette, Staff members Klaphake and Scott, and EVRPD Representatives conduct a study session to determine goals and budget priorities for this event, reporting their findings to the Committee when available. Horse Shows. Director Scott reviewed attendance figures for the Hunter Jumper, Arabian, Quarter Horse and Palomino, Paint, Miniatures, Westernaires, and Lipizzan Horse Shows. Americade. Town staff is assisting the current operator in locating a local operator in an attempt to retain this event. The Town's role is that of resource/support, not in operation. Additional information will be provided in the near future. Approximately 6,000 spectators attended the Wool Market which was very successful; Rocky Mountain Folks Festival representatives reported the event is still operating at a loss, however, they will continue to promote the event for three (3) more years; the Surprise Sale is scheduled October 10 and 11--staff urged all merchants to participate. Staff is considering adding a National Kite Fly Competition and Bicycle Competition for the 1993 Season. The Department would serve as support for both events, with minimum funding. MEETING DATES - POTENTIAL CANCELLATION. Director Scott reported that, pending agenda items, he anticipates the November 26 and December 24 Committee meeting dates will be cancelled.
