Chairman Garrett called the Committee meeting to order at 2:00 P.M.
POLICE DEPARTMENT
Junk Accumulation - Discussion. The Committee discussed junk accumulation,
particularly relating to abandoned vehicles., Section 8.04.030 prohibits the
accumulation of junk and authorizes the Department to prosecute any person
found in violation. Enforcement policy was reviewed, and Chief Racine will
investigate incidents as related by Chairman Garrett.
Pedestrian Crosswalk/Brownfield's. Chief Racine reported that a summer
officer will again man the temporary pedestrian crosswalk near
Brownfield's/E. Elkhorn Ave. The Town will repaint the crosswalk using epoxy
paint.
Summer Parking Plan. The summer parking plan will remain the same, with the
no -parking ban on Elkhorn Avenue beginning Memorial Day Weekend and ending
Labor Day Weekend.
Parking Map. Chief Racine reported that approximately 5,000 parking maps
were distributed in 1991. The Department will continue this program for
1992, and maps will be available at the Police Department (maps will be made
available to any groups requesting such).
Regarding a previous request (Community Development Committee 11/14/91) to
meet and discuss the limited fee parking proposal (Trustee Habecker), the
Committee requested Chief Racine expedite said meeting in anticipation of the
summer tourist season.
Handicapped Parking/Municipal Building. Chief Racine noted that the
Municipal Parking Lot contains one (1) handicapped parking space. Ass't.
Administrator Widmer reported that pursuant to the Americans with
Disabilities Act, staff will be conducting a survey to determine whether the
number of handicapped spaces in public parking lots is in compliance.
D.A.R.E. Program. The Department continues to promote the Drug Abuse
Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program by continuing its efforts in public
education and enforcement.
The Volunteer Fire Department had no items for discussion.
Upon completion of all agenda items, Chairman Garrett expressed her
appreciation to Chief Racine, Department Staff, Fire Chief Rumley and all
Volunteer Firemen, commenting that all provide an outstanding service to the
community, and cooperation has been at the utmost level. Chief Racine also
expressed his appreciation and that of Chief Rumley's for the support
demonstrated by Chairman Garrett and the entire Committee during their tenure
on the Public Safety Committee.
There being no further business, Chairman Garrett adjourned the meeting at
2:17 P
