Mr. James Conant of the Estes Park Ambulance Service appeared before the
Committee to discuss possible methods he could use to raise money for
the ambulance. Mr. Conant mentioned such things as dinners and contri-
butions. The Committee had a lengthy discussion as to whether or not
the Town should accept contributions. The Committee recommends to the
Board of Trustees that the present contractual arrangement between the
Town of Estes Park and the Estes Park Ambulance Service remain in effect
until further notice and that the Town will not request contributions to
maintain the ambulance.
The Police Committee discussed Section 18.6 of the Town of Estes Park
Municipal Code -- "Dogs Running at Large." The Committee instructed Chief
Banks to see that the ordinance is enforced as soon as the facilities to
house animals are completed. Chief Banks was instructed to review the
Municipal Code and work out the details for enforcement. Chief Banks
suggested his department may have to purchase an animal tranquilizer gun
for the purpose of subduing vicious dogs. The Committee recommends that
Mr. Art Janousek be engaged to care for the dogs impounded on a part-time
basis, and the compensation to Mr. Janousek will be the same as provided for
in Section 18.8-1 of the Town Municipal Code -- "Upon the impoundment of
any dog it shall be the duty of the Police Department to notify the owner
or custodian of such dog in writing that the dog has been impounded and
will be released upon proof that the dog is properly licensed and the
payment of a pound service fee of $3.00 together with the sum of $1.50 for
each day of impoundment for board and keep. The notice shall be served
either personally or by registered or certified mail addressed to the last
known address of the owner or custodian."
