HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Police Committee 1967-06-21RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Police Committee June 21, 1967 Committee: Chairman Petrocine; Trustees Grove and Tregent Attending: Trustees Grove and Tregent Also Attending: Police Chief Banks and six member of the department, and Town Clerk Hill. Absent: Chairman Petrocine. This meeting was scheduled for the express purpose of discussing departmental suggestions and to improve the communications between the department per- sonnel and the committee. Chief Banks made the following suggestions: 1. Traffic control signing, particularly parking regulations, need to be improved on both the streets and parking lots. 2. Cars parking behind the Hall Apts. are creating a traffic hazard. This same problem is becoming more evident on Big Horn Drive. 3. Departmental police schools conducted by the Town Attorney, State Patrol, Municipal Judge and members of the department have been concluded. It was the feeling of the personnel present that they were a valuable part of the police train- ing. Hon�in9S Police Officer Putt questioned the traffic .e.kiig3 on the intersection of Moraine Avenue and Crags Drive. The Department members felt this inter- section was a traffic hazard and would most likely result in an accident. Police Office Turner suggested parking lot lighting now installed be connected and turned on. Officer Turner also suggested the individual business owners should install lighting in the rear areas of their buildings. Officer Turner, along with other members of the department, questioned the starting pay scale of 050.00 per month for patrolmen. It was the general feeling of the department this rate was too low. Chief Banks suggested Police Dispatchers be on the same beginning salary scale as patrolmen. Sgt. Janousek inquired as to the proposed changes in the Policemen's Pension Plan. Committee member Tregent assured the department personnel the committee would discuss this problem when Chairman Petrocine was present at the next regular meeting.
