HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1970-11-10RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee November 10, 1970 Committee: Chairman Petrocine; Trustees Tregent and Brownfield Attending: Chairman Petrocine; Trustee Tregent Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill and Police Chief Ault Absent: Trustee Brownfield WORK SCHEDULE: Chief of Police Ault submitted a proposed work week schedule of "on six days and off two days". This schedule, if approved, will replace the present work schedule of "on six days and off one day". The proposed schedule will change the work week from its present 46.5 hours per week to 40.8 hours per week. Chief Ault assured the Committee the proposed schedule would be compatible with the present work force and will not, in itself, require additional staff. The Committee recommends approval of this schedule. POLICE SCHOOL: The Police Committee authorized Chief Ault's attendance at the "Law Enforcement Administrators Management Course" in Golden, Colorado. This school will run from November 29th through December llth at a cost of $105.00. PARADES: The Committee discussed parades and their effect on the community. Following this discussion the Committee decided to recommend to the Board of Trustees that no parade permits be issued for either Saturday or Sunday. LOITERING -VAGRANCY: The Committee discussed at length some of the problems the community has or will have due to the increased amount of loitering and vagrancy. Possible future amendment to the Municipal Code will be submitted to the Board of Trustees sometime prior to the 1971 season. TRAFFIC DESIGN: As suggested by the Public Works Committee and the Board of Trustees, this Committee discussed the traffic design of East Riverside Drive and Elkhorn Avenue. The Committee decided professional assistance from the State Highway Department would be most helpful. SIGNAL LIGHTS: The Committee decided to recommend the traffic signal light at the in- tersection of Elkhorn and MacGregor Avenues be placed on a "blinking" condition during the winter season and that during the summer, a left turn lane and arrow be added for east bound traffic on Elkhorn Avenue. The Committee also recommends the State Highway Department consider synchronizing the traffic lights in Estes Park. RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee November 10, 1970 Page two TRAFFIC DESIGN - SCHOOL: Chief Ault submitted a proposed traffic design for the school area. A copy of this design is attached to and made a part of these proceedings. This change in traffic pattern has been approved by the school officials. The Committee authorized the plan and suggested it be placed in effect at the earliest possible date. INTERSECTION OF HIGHWAYS 36 AND 34: The Committee discussed the possible hazard caused by the east bound traffic on 34 failing to yield when turning right on 36. The Chief was instructed to research the accident record on this particular loca- tion and report back to the Committee. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Dale G.
