Public Safety Committee
December 12, 1974
Committee: Chairman Burgess; Trustees Petrocine and Sutter
Attending: Chairman Burgess; Trustee Sutter
Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill, Chief of Police Ault
Absent: Trustee Petrocine
VEHICLE PURCHASE:
Due to the no lead gas requirements on passenger vehicles made in
1975, the Committee has investigated the purchase of a 1974 police
vehicle rather than a vehicle made in 1975.
Chief Ault has obtained the following prices on 1974 vehicles:
1. 1974 Plymouth Satellite $3,789.95;
2. 1974 Ford LTD $4,400.00
The Committee recommends the Board of Trustees authorize the purchase
of the 1974 Plymouth.
AMBULANCE:
The Gibson Ambulance Service has requested an increase in the
annual subsidy from $5,280.00 to $6,300.00. The Town Administrator
presented the attached comparison showing the fee schedules of
Estes Park, Fort Collins and Longmont.
The Committee recommends the Board of Trustees amend the ambulance
agreement dated July 1, 1972 between the Gibson Ambulance Service
and the Town of Estes Park by changing the fee schedule from $30.00
plus $.75 per mile to $40.00 plus $1.00 per mile.
EQUIPMENT:
The Committee recommends the Police Department be authorized to
purchase the following office equipment:
1. Electric typewriter $465.00 for the dispatcher.
2. Manual typewriter $245.00 for the squad room.
3. Chair $138.00 for the dispatcher.
COUNTY COMMUNICATION:
Chief Ault reported on a recent Larimer County emergency communication
meeting. Estes Park's Police Department, Fire Department and Power
Department was represented at this meeting. Additional information
will be forth coming regarding this subject.
SURPLUS 1971 VEHICLE:
Chief Ault was authorized to dispose of the 1971 vehicle.
RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
HOLDING CAGE:
Chief Ault reported the proposed holding cage in the Police Department
has cleared all State requirements.
The Committee recommends Chief Ault be authorized to obtain prices
on the cage construction and proceed with the best bid. Estimated
cost of the cage is $400.00
PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS:
The Police Department has experienced a situation where a physical
disability proved to be a problem.
Due to obvious reasons for police personnel to be in good physical
condition and police pension requirements, the Public Safety
Committee recommends the Board of Trustees require physical examina-
tions of all new police personnel. The estimated cost of each
exam is $68.00 to $78.00.
POLICE PERSONNEL:
Chief Ault reviewed the Police Department Personnel schedule with
the Committee. The Department will be at its authorized strength
by January 1, 1975.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
