HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1977-11-23BRADFORO PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee 1/November 23, 1977 Committee: Attending: Also Attending: Absent: Chairman Burgess, Trustees Petrocine and Sutter Chairman Burgess, Trustees Petrocine and Sutter Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault None LARIMER COUNTY CONSOLIDATED COMMUNICATIONS: The Committee discussed participating in the Larimer County Consolidated Communications system which involves centralizing all dispatch communi- cations of Larimer County. It appears the consolidation of communica- tions would be advantageous in emergency situations or disasters but not on a day-to-day basis. The Committee recommends informing the County Commissioners that the Town of Estes Park does not wish to participate in the consolidated communications system but would like access to the communications system and requests funding to obtain the necessary equipment for this access. 1977 MODEL TRAFFIC CODE: The Committee reviewed and recommends adoption of the 1977 Model Traffic Code. ADDITIONAL OFFICER REQUEST: Chief Ault submitted a request for an additional officer to help reduce the amount of overtime and to cover for those officers absent or on vacation. The Committee discussed the overall need and economics of adding an officer and tabled consideration of the request until January 1978. REPORTS: NOISE CONTROL ORDINANCE - Chief Ault reported on his research regarding a noise control ordinance. The Committee decided to handle noise problems under existing state statutes until such time that the problem would warrant adoption of a local noise control ordinance. DISASTER PLAN MEETING - The Hospital, Rocky Mountain National Park, Red Cross, and the Estes Park Police Department participated in a Disaster Plan Meeting on November 21st in which past performance during the flood disaster was evaluated and jurisdictional boun- daries, responsibilities, expertise, and equipment were established for future disasters. NEW EMPLOYEE - David Barker has been hired to fill the recently vacated Police Officer I position. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Joan/Van Horn, Secretary DEC 13 1977
