The Committee discussed offering the School District the responsibility of the street by leasing to the school that portion of Manford Avenue from its inter- section with Community Drive to the dead end. The staff was directed to contact the School Board concerning such a lease and to pursue the lease with the Town Attorney if the School Board is interested. BIRCH AND HIGH STREET INTERSECTION: A request was received from a citizen to examine the intersection of Birch and High Streets. Apparently, the visibility for east bound traffic is somewhat limited due to a house being located close to the road. Chief Ault felt that the intersection is not dangerous if normal caution is used. The Committee does not recommend any changes at this time. CROSSWALKS: Chief Ault reported that he contacted the State Highway Department and can obtain several "Yield to pedestrians at all crosswalks" signs which are 30" x 36" in size. The Committee discussed placing these signs at the Town limits on major entrances to Town, transferring existing crosswalk signs in the downtown area to perimeter areas, and possibly lining crosswalks with bricks. The Committee directed the staff to research the possibility of placing bricks in the crosswalks and decided to continue discussing the location of the crosswalk signs at the next meeting. SILENT ALARM RESPONSE PROCEDURE: Chief Ault proposed a change in the present silent alarm response pro- cedure whereby the business would be contacted by telephone prior to a patrolman answering the alarm. If no one answers at the business, then a patrolman would proceed immediately to the business. The Committee felt this change in procedure would alleviate the numerous unnecessary trips to the businesses and recommends its adoption. The next Public Safety Committee meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 15th @ 3:00 p.m. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
