HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1979-12-27BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., OENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee December 27, 1979 Committee: Chairman Swickard, Trustees Burgess and Wagner Attending: Chairman Swickard, Trustee Wagner Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault, Public Works Director Widmer Absent: Trustee Burgess REQUEST FOR PARKING RESTRICTIONS ON UNIVERSITY DRIVE: Dick Carlton, resident in University Heights, appeared before the Committee requesting a portion of University Drive be closed to parking. He explained that the vehicles continuously parked along the street create a safety hazard and that there is ample off-street parking for these vehicles. The Committee expressed reservation in enacting and enforcing an ordinance for this particular situation and directed Police Chief Ault to review existing ordinances and the Model Traffic Code regarding alternative actions. COMMUNICATION EQUIPMENT: Police Chief Ault reported that the FCC License for the Police Depart- ment's.new radio frequency shouldbe received ed1soon on0)nd dnd questedbpee er- mission to order the console (approximately station equipment ($3,400) immediately to save time and avoid price increases. Payment would not be made until 1980. REPORTS:desk bid from Pratt's and recommends purchasing REPORTS: THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING SECURITY is being tightened by increasing the number of building checks by the janitors and officersandchanging the keys to open only those doors needed by meeting groups. Chief Ault reported on a meeting with the County Civil Defense Repre- sentative who is preparing a county wide civil preparedness plan. He also will be meeting soon with a citizen who has expressed interest in assisting the Chief in civil defense activities. Applications are available at the Police Department and Town Administrator's office to start the procedure which takes from 30 to 60 days. The Police Chief reported on various procedural changes with regard to the Larimer County Jail in order to reduce the load on the facility which has been declared inadequate.
