RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
Public Safety Committee
'July 26, 1979
Committee: Chairman Swickard, Trustees Burgess and Wagner
Attending: All
Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Trustee Rumley, Town Administrator
Hill, Police Chief Ault
EXOTIC AND WILD ANIMAL ORDINANCE:
Police Chief Ault suggested the Committee consideradopting a wild and
exotic animal ordinance and presented copies of ordinances adopted by
other cities. Although there has not been a problem in Estes Park
with exotic animals, such an ordinancewould provide means for handling
future problem situations. The Committee decided to review the matter
in greater detail in the fall.
PARKING ON CLEAVE STREET:
A letter dated July 10, 1979 was received from Joan Camp requesting
that Cleave Street be treated like a residential street and unlimited
parking be allowed. The Committee felt that the area is commercial
because both sides of Cleave Street are zoned C-1 Commercial and
recommends the 2 hour parking restriction remain as is.
SHERIFF'S OFFICE PARKING:
A request was received from the Sheriff's office to move their two
designated parking spaces to an area in front of the Park Lane Building
on the south side of Park Lane. The Committee recommends approval
subject to (1) the Town providing and installing the signs and painting
the spaces, (2) the County paying for the signs and painting, and (3)
the Police Chief supervising the redesignation.
FIRE TRUCK ENTRANCES:
Jack Rumley reported that on several occasions cars have been parked
in front of the fire truck entrances. The Committee recommends
marking the area in front of the entrances with standard yellow
striping and stencilled "no parking".
REPORTS:
The Sheriff's office has developed a disaster plan which will be
panded to be multi -jurisdictional.
The Town Attorney is currently drafting the
new
ex -
animal control ordinance.
The Committee authorized Chief Ault to attend a small town training
conference for police chiefs at Colorado State University August 20th
through 24th. His attendance at the conference will be funded by LEAA.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
