1980 BUDGET:
The first draft of the Public Safety budget for 1980 was reviewed by
the Committee.
CLOSING BRODIE AVENUE FOR FOOTBALL GAMES:
A request was received from the School to close Brodie Avenue between
Community Drive and Fish Creek Road during the four home football
games. The reasons for the closure are to control crowds, and to
prevent damage and alcoholic beverage consumption onthe private property
located south of Brodie Avenue. The Committee recommends Brodie Avenue
be closed during the football games scheduled for September 8th & 28th
and October 13th and 27th.
NEW PROCEDURES FOR CLOSING STATE HIGHWAYS FOR LOCAL FUNCTIONS:
A new procedure has been initiated by the State Highway Department for
requests to close or partially close state highways for special events
or civic functions. The new procedure requires an application be sub-
mitted at least 60 days prior to the scheduled event and that local
approval be obtained before state approval. A request was received
from the Chamber of Commerce to use Highway 34 for a bike race on
September 30, 1979. The Committee recommends the application be re-
ferred to the Board of Trustees for consideration at its meeting on
September llth and that Ron Carney be invited to explain in greater
detail the proposed event.
CLOSING CLEAVE STREET FOR "CABER":
A request was received from James Durward to close a portion of Cleave
Street for three hours on Sunday, September 2nd for a pole throwing
event known as "caber". The Committee authorized Chief Ault to work
with Dr. Durward in closing only the portion of Cleave Street that is
needed for the event.
LITTLE LEAGUE FLAG FOOTBALL:
The Committee recommends the police department again sponsor a flag
football team at a cost of $93.00.
CIVIL DEFENSE PARTICIPATION:
Chief Ault requested guidance from the Committee as to how much time
he, as civil defense director for the Town, should devote to civil
defense activities. The Committee suggested he spend the amount of
time necessary to be informed and familiar with the overall program.
The Committee also suggested that an interested citizen might be
appointed to assist Chief Ault in these activities.
REPORTS:
The Committee will be discussing the safety and location of crosswalks
