RESERVE POLICE FORCE:
A letter from Lee Hartland was reviewed by the Committee recommending
the Town retain a reserve police force. Although there was conflicting
opinion among Committee members as to whether or not such a reserve
force is needed, it was generally agreed that a reserve force would
have to be well trained and closely supervised. The Committee directed
Police Chief Ault to obtain further information by contacting other
cities which use reserve forces and researching the costs involved.
IACP CONFERENCE:
The Committee authorized Police Chief Ault to attend the IACP conference
in St. Louis on September 13th through 18th.
REPORTS:
A Center for Dispute Resolution is trying to open an office in Fort
Collins. This business mediates all levels of disputes in an attempt
to reach agreements out -of -court. It receives funding from founda-
tions, various levels of government and service fees. This organiza-
tion will be approaching Larimer-Weld COG shortly for funding. If
initiated in Fort Collins, this center would be providing assistance
to the Estes Park Police Department.
Lance Hanson was hired as a Police Officer on April 16, 1980.
The new communication system and the new jail video monitoring system
are currently being installed and are expected to be completed within
a few weeks.
Chief Ault reported that Doug Max is expected to return as a summer
officer again this year along with two more summer officers from
Colorado State University.
Newly appointed Town Attorney Gregory White will be conducting a
training session with the Police Department on legal procedures on
IIay 7th at 1:00 p.m.
