TRAFFIC SAFETY STUDY:
The Committee received and reviewed "A Study of Traffic Safetyfor the
Town of Estes Park, Colorado" by Leigh, Scott & Cleary, Inc. which
identifies dangerous intersections and portions of streets within the
Town and recommends solutions. Town Engineer/Planner Widmer commented
that the Larimer-Weld COG staff and the consultants would like to meet
with the Committee to further discuss the ramifications of the study.
The Committee directed the staff to arrange this meeting.
POLICE DEPARTMENT PHOTOLAB:
Officer Emerine reported on the Police Department photolab and its
function in police work and court evidence. He explained that the
in-house processing has provided the department with an economical
and convenient means of providing the necessary photographic work.
He also discussed the possibility of expanding the photolab to pro-
cess color film. The Committee directed Officer Emerine to study the
costs of such an expansion and whether or not it would be economically
feasible.
RESERVE POLICE FORCE:
Police Chief Ault presented a proposal outlining the purpose of a
reserve police force, qualifications of participants, necessary equip-
ment, probable duties, required training, and various procedures. He
expressed some concern about the additional liability and cost associated
with a reserve police force. It was commented that assistance has been
received from the Larimer County Sheriff's Posse when needed in the
past and most likely such assistance would continue. The Committee
directed Chief Ault to itemize cost estimates of establishing a reserve
police force.
REPORTS:
Chief Ault reported on a one day workshop he and Richard Widmer attended
concerning traffic engineering and highway safety.
The new jail monitoring system has been installed and is in operation.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
