DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee ✓ January 29, 1981 Committee: Chairman Graves,Trustees Burgess and Wagner Attending: Graves, Wagner Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault Absent: Trustee Burgess BICYCLE RIDING ON SIDEWALKS: Mrs. Menard appeared before the Committee requesting some action be taken to reduce the hazard of children riding their bicycles on side- walks. Presently the Town has no provision prohibiting bike riding on sidewalks. The Committee discussed adopting an ordinance similar to the skateboard ordinance which would prohibit bike riding on all sidewalks but felt that the problem is concentrated only in the down- town area. Another alternative would be to post certain locations with signs prohibiting bike riding which would be in accordance with the Model Traffic Code. The Committee directed Chief Ault to research this alternative and report back to the Committee as to recommended locations and the number and cost of signs involved. COORS BICYCLE CLASSIC - 1981 RACE COURSE: Steve Crawford presented the proposed 1981 race course of the Coors International Bicycle Classic to be held June 28, 1981. The race course proceeds west on Elkhorn Avenue to Virginia Drive, along Virginia Drive and Park Lane to MacGregor Avenue, north on MacGregor Avenue to the Bypass, and east on the Bypass to Elkhorn Avenue. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained on Elkhorn Avenue and one lane of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the Bypass. Steve Crawford stated that several businesses directly affected by the race course have been contacted and that all should be contacted soon. The Committee recommends approval of the proposed race course. SINGLE GREEN SIGNAL ON ELKHORN AVENUE AT MACGREGOR AVENUE: A letter was received from Mery Miller of the State Highway Department recommending removal of the single green signal indication along the curb lane for eastbound traffic on Elkhorn Avenue at MacGregor Avenue. The Committee recommends, in the interest of public safety, removal of the single green traffic signal. TRUCK TRAFFIC ON PEAK VIEW SUBDIVISION STREETS: As requested by the Public Safety Committee at its meeting on November 21, 1980, a report was received from the Public Works Director re- garding heavy truck traffic on Twin Drive and Longs Drive. The report indicated that the streets meet the Townes standards on thickness and, therefore, restricting heavy truck traffic on these streets should not necessarily be based on structural or engineering reasons. The Committee felt that the majority of the truck traffic problem could be alleviated without formal Committee action. VEHICLE BIDS: The following bids were received for a police package vehicle: Dealer w/ State Bid $ 7,403.44 Chrysler Le Baron (4 barrel) $ 7,320.18 Chrysler Le Baron (2 barrel) Estes Park Ford $ 7,410.55 Fairmont (2 barrel) The Committee recommends accepting the State Bid for the four barrel carburetor Le Baron at $7,403.44.
