RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
Public Safety Committee
âś“February 26, 1981
Committee: Chairman Graves, Trustees Burgess and Wagner
Attending: All
Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Police Chief Ault
BICYCLE RIDING ON SIDEWALKS:
As requested by the Committee, Chief Ault researched what would be
involved in posting the downtown area to prohibit bicycle riding on
sidewalks. The Committee felt that the pedestrian/bicyclist conflict
is concentrated in the downtown area and should be controlled there
rather than passing an ordinance which would prohibit bicycle riding
throughout the Town. Chief Ault reported that twenty 16" x 16" signs
prohibiting bicycle riding can be obtained at an approximate cost of
$260 and can be installed on existing posts on the main blocks of the
downtown area. The Committee recommends obtaining the signs and posting
them in the downtown area.
LETTER REGARDING CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT CONSIDERATIONS:
A letter from Mayor Tregent was reviewed which outlined portions of
the Central Business District Committee's resolution to be considered
by the Public Safety Committee. The Committee discussed specifically
establishing parking for tour buses and felt that space should be pro-
vided in the Athletic Field parking lot for three buses. The Committee
directed Chief Ault to recommend a location in the parking lot and
possible locations for "tour bus parking" signs. The Committee also
agreed to meet on the site next week to review Chief Ault's recommenda-
tions.
PEDESTRIAN CROSSWALK SIGNS:
Chief Ault reported that 24" x 30" signs stating "Yield to Pedestrians
in Crosswalks" can be obtained. The Committee directed Chief Ault to
contact the State Highway Department and arrange to install the signs
at all entrances to Town.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
