HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1981-07-23BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee July 23, 1981 Committee: Chairman Graves, Trustees Burgess and Wagner Attending: All Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault CROSSWALKS: The Committee was asked to reconsider replacing the crosswalks in front of the Old Plantation Restaurant and Estes Park Rexall Drug Store. The Committee felt that the crosswalks would hinder traffic flow and be hazardous to pedestrians and, therefore, recommends not replacing them at this time. CONTINENTAL LOUNGE LIQUOR LICENSE: The court hearing on the suspension of the Continental Lounge liquor license has been scheduled for August 10, 1981. CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH THE LARIMER COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER: The Committee recommends renewing the contract between the Estes Park Police Department and the Larimer County Mental Health Center regarding cooperation in the Substance Abuse Program. CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH U. S. MARSHALL'S OFFICE: The Committee recommends renewing the service contract with the U.S. Marshall's Office in which the Estes Park Police Department receives compensation for temporarily holding federal prisoners. REPORTS: Due to the efforts of District Court Judges, District Attorney's office, and several supervisors of law enforcement agencies in Larimer County, the amount of time between arrest and court trial is being greatly reduced. Police reports are being processed faster and many motions to continue trials are being denied. Chief Ault reported on the Community Corrections program which provides alternatives to staying in jail for many persons awaiting court trials. The program helps alleviate the overburdened jails and at the same time provides guidance to the participants.
