RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS
Public Safety Committee
July 23, 1981
Committee: Chairman Graves, Trustees Burgess and Wagner
Attending: All
Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief
Ault
CROSSWALKS:
The Committee was asked to reconsider replacing the crosswalks in
front of the Old Plantation Restaurant and Estes Park Rexall Drug
Store. The Committee felt that the crosswalks would hinder traffic
flow and be hazardous to pedestrians and, therefore, recommends not
replacing them at this time.
CONTINENTAL LOUNGE LIQUOR LICENSE:
The court hearing on the suspension of the Continental Lounge liquor
license has been scheduled for August 10, 1981.
CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH THE LARIMER COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH CENTER:
The Committee recommends renewing the contract between the Estes Park
Police Department and the Larimer County Mental Health Center regarding
cooperation in the Substance Abuse Program.
CONTRACT RENEWAL WITH U. S. MARSHALL'S OFFICE:
The Committee recommends renewing the service contract with the U.S.
Marshall's Office in which the Estes Park Police Department receives
compensation for temporarily holding federal prisoners.
REPORTS:
Due to the efforts of District Court Judges, District Attorney's office,
and several supervisors of law enforcement agencies in Larimer County,
the amount of time between arrest and court trial is being greatly
reduced. Police reports are being processed faster and many motions
to continue trials are being denied.
Chief Ault reported on the Community Corrections program which provides
alternatives to staying in jail for many persons awaiting court trials.
The program helps alleviate the overburdened jails and at the same time
provides guidance to the participants.
Chief Ault provided the following statistics regarding crimes in Estes
Park during the first six months of 1980 and 1981:
1980 1981
Felonies 147 195
Part 2 Crimes 470 471
Part 3 Crimes 65 47
Part 4 Crimes 13 24
Part 5 Crimes 217 103
Motor Vehicle Accidents 145 113
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
