HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1981-05-28BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee , May 28, 1981 Committee: Chairman Graves, Trustees Burgess and Wagner Attending: Chairman Graves, Trustee Wagner Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault Absent: Trustee Burgess CONTINENTAL LOUNGE LIQUOR LICENSE: Police Chief Ault reported that several incidents have occurred at the Continental Lounge in the Alley Mall since the renewal of the liquor license on January 1, 1981. Mr. Ault further advised the Committee that he will be filing a formal complaint against the Continental Lounge to the Board of Trustees at the June 9, 1981 meeting. FINE ARTS GUILD REQUEST REGARDING "ARTREK": A request was received from the Fine Arts Guild to allow the Denver Art Museum's traveling art gallery known as "Artrek" to be parked on the east side of Bond Park during August 20th - 23rd, 1981. The Committee recommends approval. HORSE SHOW COMMITTEE REQUEST FOR ADVERTISING SIGN IN TRAFFIC ISLAND: The Horse Show and Rodeo Committee submitted detailed plans for a 3- sided marquee type sign approximately 8' long and 4' high to be located in the traffic island at the intersection of Highways 36 and 7. The proposed sign would advertise various community events throughout the year. The Committee agreed with the proposed idea but felt there might be a conflict in allowing off premises advertising and, therefore, recom- ments denial at this time. SAFETY FAIR: The Police Department and Mountain Bell are jointly sponsoring a safety fair at Stanley Park on June 21, 1981. The Fish and Wildlife Office has requested permission to bring a portable shooting range as an aid in teaching gun handling safety. The Committee recommends approval and that the Board of Trustees appoint a range officer as required. in Section 9.96.010 of the Municipal Code to be responsible for the operation of the shooting range. REPORTS: The State Highway Department has decided to allow left turns on a trial basis from Elkhorn Avenue onto Virginia Drive where the new traffic light was installed. The changes at the Highway 34 & 36 intersection to allow double left turns from Highway 36 onto Business 34 have been completed. There beiii fno further business, the meeting adjourned.
