DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee ./May 13, 1982 Committee: Chairman Graves, Trustees Wagner and Wood Attending: Chairman Graves, Trustees Wagner and Wood Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault, Odd Lyngholm, John Webermeier, Greg Rosener Melvin Galloway FORWARD ESTES PARK FOUNDATION - VISITOR PUBLIC RELATIONS Greg Rosener, of the Forward Estes Park Foundation, expressed concern about the way police officers were treating visitors on the street during the summer months. Greg Rosener and Odd Lyngholm discussed with the Committee the public relations problems created when patrolmen reprimanded visitors who were jay walking or walking against the light. The Committee acknowledged that they are aware of the problem but also stated that the police officers are there by public request and are only reprimanding those persons who are violating the law. Letters regarding this public relations concern were received from Greg Rosener and Neil Rosener both dated May 12, 1982. John Webermeier suggested that better signage be placed at the intersections and Chief Ault will follow-up on this suggestion. TAXI STAND FOR DIAL -A -RIDE Odd Lyngholm appeared before the Committee to request a taxi stand location for a new taxi/shuttle business (to be known as "Dial -A - Ride", if granted permission by the PUC). The taxi service will serve an area within a 15 mile radius of the intersections of Highways 34 and 36. Mr.Lyngholm requested the taxi stand be located on Elkhorn Avenue in front of Indian Village or on Moraine Avenue, also in front of Indian Village as a second choice. Chief Ault recommended that the taxi stand be located on Moraine Avenue to help traffic flow. The Committee agreed with Chief Ault and recommends that Moraine Avenue be used for the location of the Dial -A -Ride taxi stand. PARKING FINE PROCEDURE Melvin Galloway, the Town's parking attendant, discussed with the Committee the summer parking situation and the present parking fees. The Committee authorized five courtesy boxes at $74.50 to be placed in the various parking lots. The Committee also decided to keep the overtime parking violation fine (if not paid within 72 hours) at $4.00. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. Joan/jtan Horn, Town Clerk
