HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Safety Committee 1983-06-23BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS ✓ Public Safety Committee June 23, 1983 Committee: Attending: Also Attending: Chairman Graves, Trustees Wagner and Wood All Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Police Chief Ault, Clerk Jensen OFFICERS PAID FOR WORKING ROAD GUARD FOR RACES, ETC.: Chief Ault reported that the Sheriff's Department is being paid to work for special event races, marathons, etc. and he requested an opportunity for his off -duty officers to be paid for working these events. The people sponsoring the event would pay for the officer's time. A pool could be set up through the Police Department to give each officer an opportunity to make some extra money. The Committee recommends approval of a pool for off -duty officers to work special events, under the same conditions as the Sheriff's Department. NEW PROCEDURE - SO-23: Chief Ault briefly went over Special Order 23 "Weapons and Their Use Policy", which will be included in the Estes Park Police Department Rules and Regulations. After reviewing the new procedures, the Committee recommends approval. MONEY APPROPRIATED FROM SALE OF RECORDER: Chief Ault reported that Dictaphone had sold the recorder from the Police Department for $2,300.00. Chief Ault requested that these funds be put in the budget for a training program for officers. The Committee recommends approval. REPORT ON DISASTER PLAN AND EXERCISE: Chief Ault gave a brief report on the Disaster Plan and stated that the County and Town are working cooperatively on the formation of this Plan. POLICE PENSION FUND: The legislation to amend Section 8 of the Colorado State Statutes to help correct the police pension problems did not pass. The Police Pension Board will be meeting to make a decision on the police pension plan for Estes Park. UNIFORMS: The Police Department Uniforms are getting old and Chief Ault reported that he will be putting a new uniform design together for his officers. TWO-HOUR PARKING ON VIRGINIA: In a letter dated June 20, 1983, Greig Steiner, for the Courtyard Merchants Association, requested a two-hour parking limit be applied to the street parking on the commercial section of Virginia Drive during the summer months. After a lengthy discussion, the Committee recommends two-hour parking on Virginia Drive, west side, beginning at a point 150 feet north of its intersection with Park Lane and extending 174 feet north; two-hour parking on Virginia Drive, east BRAOFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Safety Committee - June 23, 1983 - Page 2 side, beginning at a point 100 feet north of its intersection with Park Lane and extending 162 feet north.
