Collins District 2 year term 2 year term 4 year term 4 year term 4 year term 2 year term 4 year term The meeting was conducted by Tim Rische. Jeff Barker will be the chairman of the group. Alice Gray will be the secretary. The meeting schedule was set. The Tree Board will meet once a month - March thru July. Then the meetings will be in September, November, and January. Meetings will be held the first Tuesday of the month at 8:00 a.m. at the Municipal Building. We discussed Tree City Standards: 1. Calendar 2. City Tree Ordinance 3. $2 per capita towards community forestry. Dan reported that we are spending double the amount - about $51,000 budget. Will be redoing ash trees downtown. There is $10,000 to $15,000 damage to trees a year by elk. We will receive copies of plantings that will grow in our soil and climate. 4. Arbor Day will be May 17th, but will be celebrated on May 16th, to involve the schools. Discussed choices of where to plant trees this year. Mike Babler mentioned that there is a fabric mulch. It's a black fabric, in rolls, that is a vapor and weed barrier. It may be worth trying in Estes Park. Mike also mentioned the Learning Tree Workshop by the Colorado State Forest Service. It would be a good program to do for Arbor Day 1998 in our schools. He will send the information to Dan. Tree Board Meeting Minutes March 7, 1997 Page 2 Wendall suggested that we plant one of EVIA's trees and one from the Town at Eagle Rock School - on Arbor Day as a thank you to the school. Members agreed. Perhaps we will get seedlings next year for the students to plant at the schools in Estes Park. Two trees will be planted at the youth center this year. Wendall suggested that we put an article in the paper and church bulletins asking for donations for trees for Arbor Day. Dan said it would be better to do this in the fall of '97 and push for Arbor Day 1998. The trees could be memorials to people which would eventually be noted on a wall in the Municipal Building. There were many plantings done for memorials over the years and this information would need to be gathered. We could use a sub -committee for this. We will also need a sub -committee for Arbor Days. We all received a copy of the tree ordinance and policy. We will invite Dave Lenz, Colorado Forester, to our next meeting. At our next meeting, we will discuss Arbor Day, the ponderosa problem, and read over the tree ordinance. We will send Mike Babler all our minutes and mailings. Foresters are always welcome at our meetings. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 a.m. Alice Gray, Secretary
