Members: Present: TREE BOARD MEETING #25 TOWN OF ESTES PARK April 4, 2000 Jeff Barker Public Works Committee Rep. 2-year term Dan Speedlin Parks Department Rep. 2-year term Tim Rische Parks Department Rep. 4-year term Russ Franklin Parks Department Rep. 4-year term Wendell Amos EVIA Rep. 4-year term Alice Gray EVIA Rep. 4-year teen Dick Lang EVIA Rep. 2-year term Dan Speedlin, Russ Franklin, Tim Rische, Jeff Barker and Dick Lang were in attendance. Also attending were Dave Farmer and Matt. The meeting was called to order at 8:30 a.m. 1. Guidelines for the Memorial Tree Program were the first topics of discussion. Those Tree Board guidelines are: 1. Not responsible for tree deaths. 2. Locations might not be forever. 3. The Tree Board chooses the species and size (2" for deciduous, 4' and up for pine varieties. 4. We choose location. 5. We supply planting, purchasing and pick up. 6. Plant tees only in irrigated areas. ARBOR DAY: Tim will talk with Rick at the Youth Center to determine possible locations for two trees. Three trees will be placed at the Senidr Center. The Tree Board needs to let Dave Farmer know the times for the Arbor Day festivities. 3. PINE BEETLES: Tim and Russ will put together a news release about pine beetles for the Trail - Gazette. A second article will be submitted to the newspaper in the fall. Dave Farmer has said he will help the Board establish an annual plan for beetle control. It was suggested that the Board send postcards containing pine beetle information to the public. 4. INFORMATION The Board plans public. Included Pine Beetles; a seasonally. Meeting adjourned. RACK FOR THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING: to provide a rack with five slots to provide information to the will be pamphlets and flyers about the Tree Memorial Program; Plant List; Winter Watering; and one slot that will rotate Tim Rische, Secretary Pro -tern cc: Mike Babler Dave Farmer Dave Lentz Vickie O'Connor MEMORIAL TREE PROGRAM GUIDELINES 1. Tree board representative will choose tree species and location that are acceptable. 2. Acceptable sizes are 2" caliper for deciduous trees and 4' and up for evergreen.(approximately $250.00) 3. Parks Department will purchase trees and plant them. 4. Trees will be planted in irrigated areas only. 5. Locations may not be permanent. 6. The Town will not be responsible for replacement or transplanting. 7. Town will provide maintenance of trees after planting.
