Arbor Day plans include a visit with the Elementary School principal, John Bryant, on
January 14, 2009, reported Sandy Burns. Sandy also discussed several options for Arbor
Day activities including holding a poster contest, creating a calendar, and other
information she discovered when researching Arbor Day celebrations across the
country. Sandy will report on her meeting with Bryant at the next Tree Board meeting.
The Legacy Tree Program was discussed; formal advertising of the program will
commence in fall. For now, Russ Franklin will provide Barb Boyer Buck with a list of
what tree is needed where for interim inquiries. Mike Richardson commented that the
Estes Valley Recreation and Parks District has a similar program and will take referrals.
In regards to the Arboretum, Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority will present a
design proposal from the landscaper, DSW, at the February Tree Board meeting. Scott
Zurn mentioned that the area is being considered for a "Fishing is Fun" grant through
the Department of Wildlife, which could increase the funds available for this project.
It was unanimously confirmed that the Tree Symposium will be held at the Holiday
Inn on May 6, 2009. Several options of the schedule were discussed with the resolution
that Barb will type up the proposed schedule and all members of the Tree Board will
comment via email.
The proposed schedule as presented in the meeting is:
Dave Leatherman, Mountain Pine Beetle
Tom Throgmorton, Landscape Gardener
Fire Panel
Local Update Panel
-LUNCH-
All Agencies Panel
Lessons Learned (west side folks)
Dave Leatherman
It was also determined that vendor tables will be made available for $100 each. After
the schedule is approved by Tree Board members via email after the meeting, Barb will
create a promotional flyer for the "call for vendors" and "call for speakers."
Several Tree Board members and Diana Selby said they had contacts they would like to
approach regarding speakers and vendors.
The meeting was adjourned at 1 1:00 a.m.
