HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Tree Board 2009-01-09PP ESTER ePARK COLOR ADQ TREE BOARD MINUTES January 9, 2009 Board Members Present: Absent: Scott Roederer Wendell Amos Sandy Burns Chuck Levine Bob Seifert Mike Richardson QUORUM: yes Other Present: Russ Franklin, Bruce Kane — Public Works Staff Diana Selby - Colorado State Forest Service Scott Zurn — Public Works Director Barb Boyer Buck — Support Staff Arbor Day plans include a visit with the Elementary School principal, John Bryant, on January 14, 2009, reported Sandy Burns. Sandy also discussed several options for Arbor Day activities including holding a poster contest, creating a calendar, and other information she discovered when researching Arbor Day celebrations across the country. Sandy will report on her meeting with Bryant at the next Tree Board meeting. The Legacy Tree Program was discussed; formal advertising of the program will commence in fall. For now, Russ Franklin will provide Barb Boyer Buck with a list of what tree is needed where for interim inquiries. Mike Richardson commented that the Estes Valley Recreation and Parks District has a similar program and will take referrals. In regards to the Arboretum, Estes Park Urban Renewal Authority will present a design proposal from the landscaper, DSW, at the February Tree Board meeting. Scott Zurn mentioned that the area is being considered for a "Fishing is Fun" grant through the Department of Wildlife, which could increase the funds available for this project. It was unanimously confirmed that the Tree Symposium will be held at the Holiday Inn on May 6, 2009. Several options of the schedule were discussed with the resolution that Barb will type up the proposed schedule and all members of the Tree Board will comment via email. The proposed schedule as presented in the meeting is: Dave Leatherman, Mountain Pine Beetle Tom Throgmorton, Landscape Gardener Fire Panel Local Update Panel -LUNCH- All Agencies Panel Lessons Learned (west side folks) Dave Leatherman It was also determined that vendor tables will be made available for $100 each. After the schedule is approved by Tree Board members via email after the meeting, Barb will create a promotional flyer for the "call for vendors" and "call for speakers." Several Tree Board members and Diana Selby said they had contacts they would like to approach regarding speakers and vendors.
