HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Tree Board 2010-04-02ESTES VA ()PARK COLORADO TREE BOARD MINUTES April 2, 2010 Board Members Present: Absent: Rex Poggenpohl Chuck Levine Sandy Burns Craig Adams Mike Richardson Scott Roederer QUORUM: yes Other Present: Russ Franklin, Bruce Kane, Dave Mahany — Public Works Staff Scott Zurn, Public Works Director Barb Boyer Buck — Support Staff New Members Craig Adams was welcomed to the Tree Board as a new member, replacing former member Wendell Amos. It was decided that Sandy Burns, Rex Poggenpohl, Russ Franklin and Scott Roederer will serve on the interview panel to interview three candidates for the position vacated by Bob Seifert. Barb Boyer Buck will email the applications submitted to the interview panel. Tree Symposium Barb reported the Tree Symposium has collected $1,000 in income to date. Vendor applications and conference details deadlines are April 23. For every presenter, a member of the Tree Board was assigned as facilitator. I. Sandy Burns will introduce and facilitate Keith Wood. 2. Rex Poggenpohl will handle Dave Schulte 3. Mike Richardson will take care of Tim Buchanan 4. Craig Adams will facilitate Ralph Zentz 5. Dave Mahany will facilitate both panel discussions Scott Roederer will collect bios from all speakers. It was discussed whether to publicize the event in the Front Range papers; Scott Zurn said he would have to discuss that idea with Town of Estes Park administration to see if they want to increase the audience in that way. Honorariums were discussed; except for Dave Leatherman and Dave Schulze, all other participants are representatives of governmental agencies and do not require compensation. Dave Leatherman will be given $200 for presenting two keynote lectures and Dave Schulze will be given a vendor table (value of $100) for presenting. Door prizes and the tree cookie contest were discussed; Mike Richardson will try to collect 'door prizes from some local merchants but noted it would be difficult to get this year because he is also requesting donations for another fundraiser. Mike will handle the tree cookie coordination. Agencies participating in the event so far (no charge for their tables) are: 1. Sue Pinkham, Wildfire prevention program 2. Rocky Mountain National Park 3. Colorado State Forest Service 4. United States Forest Service 5. Beetle Busters 6. Estes Valley Forest Issues Forum In addition, participating presenters will be offered a table in this room to visit with attendees and provide additional information (with the exception of Dave Schulze who will be given a vendor table in the vendor exhibit area). Arbor Day Sandy Burns presented a final schedule of activities at the Elementary School for Arbor Day activities. A day of student tree education in each classroom will be followed by a public ceremony, tree planting, and dedication of an Arbor Day bench donated by Sunrise Rotary. A Blue Spruce tree will be delivered to the Estes Park Elementary School April 15 for the students to care for until its planted on Arbor Day (May 7). The tree cookie will be delivered on April 26. Contest prizes include a "We Love Trees" Arbor Day shirt for the winners of the contest — one per classroom, 25 students. Barb Boyer Buck will provide the flyers, the contest entry forms, and the invitations to the event; the Town's Public Information Office Kate Rusch will handle the posters and publicity. Tree Planting Schedule A sub -committee to determine the 2010 tree planting schedule was not able to meet prior to this meeting; Russ Franklin will prepare a report to present at the April 16 meeting.
