Other Present:

Barb Boyer Buck — Support Staff
New Member The interview panel of Rex Poggenpohl and Russ Franklin interviewed Barbara
Williams; and Rex Poggenpohl, Russ Franklin, Craig Adams and Barb Boyer Buck interviewed
Matthew Taylor for the open position on the Tree Board. It was decided it was not necessary
to do a second interview with Charley Dickey, the third candidate for the open position. After
interviewing and a comprehensive discussion between all board members, it was decided to
recommend Barbara Williams for membership based on her extensive background in
environmental management.
As a result of the interviewing process, Rex Poggenpohl came up with a list of candidate
criteria; all board members circled the top issues and this will be used in future interviewing of
candidates.
Tree Planting Schedule Russ Franklin presented a tree -planting proposal to the Tree
Board. Several options were presented and it was resolved to make tree plantings at the new
fairgrounds grandstands facility as first priority, followed by plantings along the Fish Creek path
at Scott Avenue. It was suggested that the Fish Creek area would be an ideal spot for Legacy
Tree plantings as well.
t
Tree Symposium It was resolved that Scott Roederer will act as MC for the event, and will
be making final decisions on all organization. Scott will delegate as needed to other Tree Board
members and staff.
Barb presented a bill stuffer that will be included in all I0,500 utility bills mailed in April. The
bill stuffer contains the complete schedule of events. The tree cookie will be delivered to the
facility the night before the event (moved from the Elementary School).
Press releases will be handled by Kate Rusch, leading up to the event.
Rex and Scott R. will be out of town until just before the event, so Barb will handle last-minute
preparations for the symposium. Rex and Barb visited the conference center after the meeting
to see to some of the exhibit details.
Barb will communicate final preparations via email to all board members.
Everyone was encouraged to arrive at the Conference Center between 6:30-7 a.m. on May 8 to
facilitate vendor set-up and see to last-minute AV concerns. Barb will investigate the possibility
of borrowing AV equipment from Town departments to defray costs.
On the topic of marketing the event outside of the valley, Chuck Levine said he is most
concerned that there is enough room for Estes Valley residents to attend. It was resolved to
use our usual marketing channels through the Colorado State Forest Service to get the word
out but not to do a focused campaign outside of our area. Kate Rusch will be forwarded these
instructions.
Arbor Day Several board members ordered "We Love Trees" T-shirts to wear to the Arbor
Day event; Mike Richardson said he would investigate the possibility of getting nice Town of
Estes Park logoed shirts for the Tree Symposium event.
It was also resolved to order 5 XL "We Love Trees" T-shirts to use as door prizes for the
Tree Symposium.
Tree Board Meeting Schedule It was decided to continue to meet throughout the year
