Tree Board Appointment
Carol Shannon was interviewed by Dave Mahany, Rex Poggenpohl, and Barb Boyer Buck.
Everyone thought she would be a great fit for the Tree Board; however, since a quorum was not
present for this meeting, Rex will provide a recommendation and forward to all Tree Board
members to get a quorum vote to recommend appointment.
Environmental Stewardship Award
Howard Burkhart was chosen as the recipient of the Environmental Stewardship Award. His
wife, Janice Reichart will accept the award on his behalf. Sandy reported that the Mayor has a
script and Russ Franklin will also say a few words. Barb was asked to book the meeting room at
the museum in case of bad weather. Barb will send an email to those not selected, thanking them
for the nomination.
Arbor Day
Barb reported that the proclamation naming May as the Month of the Tree will be signed on
April 26. The proclamation mentions Arbor Day on May 6, the Environmental Stewardship
Award on May 9, and the Tree Symposium on May 25.
The student tree for Arbor Day was delivered on April 15 by Russ and Mike Richardson: The
tree will be cared for by the students until it is planted, along with one other tree, on Arbor Day.
The Tree Cookie will be delivered to the school today by Mike Richardson.
Beetle Symposium
There will be a place for handouts for vendors (who were not invited to participate this year, but
were offered a space to offer literature), agencies, and the beetle busters. Barb will also specially
invite all the HOA representatives she can find emails for (from the Board of Realtors site),
make name tags and make a reservation for lunch for the speakers. Barb confirmed speakers will
be:
1. Diana Selby, Biology of the Beetle
2. Scott Zum (TOEP), Dave Hattis (USFS), Chris Dahl (RMNP), Boyd Lebeda (CSFS),
Dave Lentz (Larimer County) Agency Panel
3. Sandy Burns, Little Valley Owners Association & Bud Duryea, Windcliffe Homeowners
Association, Local Successes — HOAs and their role in fighting the beetle.
New Business
May's meeting will be held on May 13 in the Training Room of Town Hall in consideration of
Arbor Day Celebration activities on May 6.
