Approval of Minutes
Since there was not a quorum present, past minutes were not approved. They will be sent out for
the next meeting's agenda.
Tree Talks
July 11— only 10 people attended the talk by Dave Schulze, "Selecting Plants for the Estes
Valley." There was discussion of the possible reasons including not enough publicity, no
parking available, wrong time of day. It was suggested that the talks be changed to 7 pm;
however, publicity was already distributed with the 4-6 pm time, including bill stuffers.
The other two talks are Sue Pinkham with Wildfire Mitigation on August 15 and Colorado State
Forest Service speaking on Forest Stewardship and Fall Beetle Mitigation.
GOCO Grant
Barb presented an email and a report from Stan Gengler, asking that we refrain from
participating in the August grant cycle; EVRPD is submitting a grant for this cycle and they
wouldn't be able to partner with us. In addition, the grant would be in competition with the
EVRPD grant. Rick Spowart from the DOW expressed support for the project and that
organization might be able to partner with the Town as well.
Fencing Update
Stan Gengler's report included an update on the bird sanctuary fencing - $6,000 was received
from the Town, $6,000 from the Bureau of Reclamation, and $12,000 from the Rocky Mountain
Bird Observatory. The fence will be installed by EVRPD staff in phases, spanning from the end
of July to the end of August.
Budget
Scott Zurn suggested that Jacquie Halburnt be invited to the next Tree Board meeting to discuss
budget proposals. Tree City funds have an extra $8,000 (originally allocated for a grant match)
for 2011. One of Gengler's suggestions for a re -submittal on the GOCO grant would be to have
more matching cash; perhaps this could be rolled over and paired with more funds for the 2012
grant cycle.
