HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Tree Board 2014-03-27Town of Estes Park, Larimer County, Colorado, March 27th, 2014 Minutes of a Regular meeting of the Tree Board of the Town of Estes Park, Larimer County, Colorado. Meeting held in the Engineering Conference Room of Town Hall Room 100 in said Town of Estes Park on the 27th day of March, 2014. Present: Celine Lebeau Barbara Williams Dewain Lockwood Apryle Craig Absent: Chris Reed Also Present: Kevin McEachern, Public Works Operations Manager Jen lmber, Public Works Administrative Assistant John Ericson, Town Board Liaison Keri Kelly, Parks Division Tonya Ziegler, Parks Division Brian Berg, Parks Division The meeting was called to order at 4:05 p.m. GENERAL BUSINESS It was moved and seconded (Craig/Williams) to approve the February 20th, 2014 minutes and the motion passed unanimously. ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION UPDATES Celine Lebeau updated the committee on Arbor Day events. In lieu of small prizes, this year the Tree Board will be donating educational books about trees to the elementary school library. The school has provided a list of preferred books for donations. Celine also presented the t-shirt contest submissions and the committee selected a winner to be used on the 2014 Arbor Day t-shirts. Brian Berg will present a report on the Eagle Rock tree planting project at Scott's Ponds at the May PUP Committee meeting. Money for 225 trees was donated again this year for the project. Ten to fifteen Eagle Rock students will participate and wish to continue with volunteer work into the summer. The Town will donate chokecherry and Toba Hawthorn trees to plant at Eagle Rock school for their Arbor Day Celebration in May. Celine will email out the schedule for the April 24th events once it is finalized. Jen Imber will work with Celine and Kate Rusch to prepare a news release on the event. Jen will also work with the Town Clerk to prepare the proclamation declaring April the Month of the Tree so Mayor Pinkham can present it at the event. OTHER ITEMS OF BUSINESS Keri Kelly provided a brief update on the 2014 America In Bloom program. The judges will return on July 21sL and 22nd. The steering committee is currently in the beginning phases of preparation. Brian Berg reported the Estes Park Tree Diseases & Pests Seminar on March 10th went well and received accolades from those in attendance. The seminar was recorded and is available for viewing on the Town's website. Apryle Craig discussed an event she will introduce to the community in June in conjunction with International Migratory Bird Day. The free day -long event will be held in the Hondius Room of the Estes Valley Library and will feature informational booths, bird walks led by local volunteers and potentially a showing of Nick Molle's documentary "Birds Without Borders." The event is tentatively scheduled for June 17th. Apryle asked if the committee would be interested in hosting an informational booth at the event. Members unanimously agreed this would fit well with the committee's new scope of duties and would like to continue discussion of supporting the event. Trustee Ericson reminded the committee that with the new upcoming scope of duties, the Town Board is looking forward to the new Parks Advisory Board's work on creating a Public Art policy. With no further business to discuss, the meeting was adjourned at 5:14 pm.
