The Committee reviewed a letter dated October 7, 1976 from J. A.
Durward which requested a refund of off-street parking fees in the
amount of $5,250. Dr. Durward proposes to provide off-street parking
on Lots 47 and 48 of Buenna Vista Terrace in lieu of fees. Fifteen
property owners on Davis Hill (Buenna Vista Terrace) appeared strongly
opposing public parking on the proposed lots. A letter also opposing
the off-street parking was received from Charles and Dawn Barker.
Bill Van Horn advised that parking lots are not a permitted use in
R-1 Residential zoning districts which is the current zoning of Lots
47 and 48, Buenna Vista Terrace. Also discussed was the question of
the proposed parking being located within convenient walking distance
of the principal building for which the parking space is required.
Because Dr. Durward could not attend this meeting, the Committee
decided to take no action at this time and to reconsider the matter
at the next Public Works Committee meeting on November 18th.
ELEVATOR MAINTENANCE:
The agreement with Montgomery Elevator Company included a monthly
maintenance check which costs the Town $53.96 per month. The eleva-
tor contains new equipment and, therefore, requires minimum normal
maintenance which the Town could easily handle in-house without in-
creasing its liability. The Committee recommends cancelling the
agreement with Montgomery Elevator Company and maintaining in-house
the elevator in the Municipal Building.
STREET NAMING AND NUMBERING:
A sample resolution was submitted by the E.V.I.A. adopting the system
of street naming and numbering which has resulted from the two year
study by Slim Roethle and Dan Doylen. The Committee recommends an
ordinance be prepared designating official street names and numbers
according to the study and that it be returned to the Committee for
final review.
ACCOMMODATION SIGNS FOR HIGHWAY 34 BYPASS:
A letter dated September 8th was received from Oscar G. Oliver re-
questing that "Motel and Cottage Area" signs be located to point out
accommodations on Highway 34.Bypass (Wonderview Avenue). The Commit-
tee recommends the letter be referred to the State Highway Department.
EMPLOYEE RECOMMENDATION:
The Committee recommends that Jack Teller be authorized to continue
his position as Street Foreman until his retirement on December 19, 1976.
REPORTS:
The removal of the old Chamber of Commerce building has started
and is expected to be completed within the month of October.
The East Riverside sidewalk project has been completed.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
