TRAFFIC SIGNAL -INTERSECTION OFELKHORN AVENUE & EAST RIVERSIDE DRIVE:
Mery Miller and Joe Aschenbrenner of the State Highway Department
appeared before the Committee and presented a plan for a traffic signal
at the intersection of Elkhorn Avenue with East Riverside Drive and
Virginia Drive. The plan was designed for the existing offset inter-
section. The Committee discussed at great length with the State Highway
Department realignment vs. non -realignment of the intersection, removal
vs. nonremoval of the stoplight at MacGregor Avenue, removing the mid -
block crosswalks, and the effect of the traffic signal on the flow of
traffic. The State Highway Department pointed out that some parking
along Elkhorn Avenue may have to be eliminated and that even with the
State Highway Department installing the traffic light, installation may
run into June of next summer. The Committee recommends proceeding
immediately with the installation of the traffic light without realigning
the intersection at this time.
SIDEWALK INVENTORY & NOTIFICATION:
Public Works Director Widmer presented a sample letter to notify property
owners of needed sidewalk repairs in front of their buildings in the
downtown area. The Committee recommends that those property owners
whose sidewalks need repair being notified by the letter and accompanying
photograph of the sidewalk condition and that each property owner be
responsible for repair of the entire sidewalk in front of his building.
FIRE HYDRANTS IN THE COUNTRY CLUB MANOR AREA:
As referred by the Water Committee, several locations offire hydrants
in the Country Club Manor area were reviewed. The Committeerecommends
fire hydrants be installed at the following locations:
Landers Street and Columbine Avenue
High Street and Driftwood Avenue
High Street and Aspen Avenue
Ponderosa Avenue and Aspen Avenue (if budgeting permits)
REPORTS:
