HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1981-01-22BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee ./ January 22, 1981 Committee: Chairman Dannels, Trustees Houston and Wagner Attending: All Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill, Public Works Director Widmer STANLEY PARK STUDY TAPE SLIDE PRESENTATION: Dave Thomas and Jack Miller showed the Committee a tape slide presenta- tion which discusses the present uses of Stanley Park and introduces the Stanley Park study. The presentation will be shown to local organ- izations to inform them of the study and proposed future uses of Stanley Park and to obtain public response. VIRGINIA DRIVE SIDEWALK, CURB AND GUTTER: Greg Steiner discussed with the Committee the various alternatives of constructing a sidewalk, curb and gutter along both sides of Virginia Drive. It was generally agreed that portions of the sidewalk would have to encroach upon the street right-of-way. The Committee recommends the property owners involved be required to submit sidewalk, curb, and gutter designs to the Town Engineer by March 19, 1981. NEW STREET SWEEPER PURCHASE: Because delivery time will be about three to four months, the Committee recommends proceeding immediately with obtaining bids for a "3-wheeled" diesel street sweeper. STREET PATCHING AND REPAIR CHARGE: Labor and material costs for street patching have increased greatly since the $1.25 per square foot cost for the Town to repair street l es nytequipmented ln July costs. 1979. U.S. 34 BIKE PATH: Department Public Works Director Widmer reported that the State Highway has offered to put the extension on the culvert for the U.S. 34 bike path just west of Four Winds Motor Lodge if the Town will supply materials. The estimated cost of the materials is $2,000. The Committee recommends approval. A portion of the bike path will utilize asphalt paving on the Hobby Horse Motor Lodge property. The owner is agreeable provided that the Town provides him with a liability waiver. The Committee recommends the waiver be provided. POLICE DEPARTMENT CLEANING CONTRACT: Inc.,which has the cleaning contract for the PorterlicIndustries, rice increase to $476 per month. BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee - January 22, 1981 - Page 2 CLEANING SERVICE FOR THE MUNICIPAL BUILDING: The Building Services Worker responsible for cleaning the Municipal Building will be resigning soon due to health reasons. The Committee recommends obtaining bids for cleaning the Municipal Building excluding the Police Station from Porter Industries, Inc. and Village Maintenance Service which presently have cleaning contracts with the Town. RAILROAD TIES OFFER: The Town received an offer to purchase railroad ties at $6.50/tie provided 400 are purchased. The Committee recommends purchasing 400 railroad ties at this price for park landscaping and other public works projects. FIRE HYDRANT REQUEST FOR MARYS LAKE ROAD AREA: A request was received from eight property owners for a fire hydrant to be located approximately 1000feet south of the nearest existing fire hydrant at the corner of Marys Lake Road and Middle Broadview. The Water Superintendent confirmed that only a 4" waterline serves that area and that the property owners should be aware of that. The Committee recommends a fire hydrant be approved for that location provided that the property owners take on full responsibility of the costs of the hydrant and installation.
