HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1981-10-15BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee October 15, 1981 Committee: Chairman Dannels, Trustees Houston and Wagner Attending: All Also Attending: Mayor Tregent, Town Administrator Hill, Public Works Director Widmer TALLANT PARK WALKWAY EXTENSION: The Committee discussed continuing the walkway along the north side of the Big Thompson River from Tallant Park east to the golf course. Recreation District manager Bob Diers expressed concern regarding the safety hazard to pedestrians and the Recreation District's liability because golfers cannot see pedestrians approaching from the proposed walkway area. The Committee realized the problem and recommends that the walkway not be extended at this time. TOWN RECOMMENDATIONS FOR STATE HIGHWAY PROJECTS: A list was received from Larimer County of its requests to the State Highway Department for future highway projects. The following Estes Park area projects are included on the list: Priority #5 U.S. 36 from Lyons to Estes Park Priority #8 Colorado 7 from Meeker Park to Estes Park Priority #12 U.S. 36 at Marys Lake Road - Signalization The Committee recommends requesting that Larimer County add the following state highway projects to the list: Expand U.S. 34 to three lanes from the ending of the existing three lanes east of Estes Park to the intersection of U.S. 34 and U.S. 36 Redesign the intersection of U.S. 36 and S.H. 7 Improve U.S. 36 from Moraine Avenue to Beaver Point (wider shoulders, bike trails, etc.) Conduct a feasibility study to investigate south Estes Park bypass Connect U.S. 34 bypass west of Estes Park to U.S. 36 SURPLUS VEHICLE BIDS: The following bids were received for the surplus town vehicles: 1976 Plymouth 1975 Ford P/U 4x4 1970 Chev. P/U 1964 Ford P/U $ 50 500* 400 100 *highest bid $ 300 400 1,400* 1,210 $ 200 500 400 600 857* 225 One bid of $2,001.00 was submitted for all vehicles. $ 100 200 300 500* 451 407 75 262 The Committee directed the Public Works Director to accept the highest successful bid for each vehicle. MUNICIPAL BUILDING ENERGY IMPROVEMENTS: Public Works Director Widmer reported that the cost of installing a BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO.. OENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee - October 15, 1981 - Page 2 day/night temperature control thermostat system in the Municipal Building should be recovered within two years and the cost of installing a timer on the air circulation system should be recovered in about 51 years. The Committee recommends proceeding with these energy efficiency improvement projects at an estimated cost of $9,800. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
