HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1982-09-16BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee September 16, 1982 Committee: Chairman Dannels, Trustees Houston and Wagner Attending: Chairman Dannels, Trustee Houston Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill, Public Works Director Widmer Absent: Trustee Wagner 1983 BUDGET: Mr. Ted Schmidt, Director of the Public Library, presented the Library Budget requests to the Committee for their review. Mr. Schmidt then expressed concern about the upkeep of the Library grounds and requested that funds ($1,500) be added to the Parks Fund for landscaping around the Library building. He also stated that the Friends of the Library Group would be willing to donate $200 for the landscaping project. Director Widmer stated that he was in agreement with this request and that this should be part of the Parks budget. The Committee recommends adding to the Parks Fund for this project and the upkeep of this landscaping. Town Administrator Dale Hill presented the preliminary 1983 Public Works budget to the Committee for their review. DEBRIS REMOVAL EXPENSES: Director Widmer reviewed the flood debris removal expenses with the Committee. To date, approximately $315,000 has been spent on debris removal contracts, which does not include the expense for the Town crews. STEINER SIDEWALK: Town Administrator Dale Hill reported that Mr. Greig Steiner had installed his sidewalk on Virginia Drive. The sidewalk does not run the full length of Mr. Steiner's property and Administrator Hill asked the Committee if they will accept what Mr. Steiner has done. The Committee recommends accepting this sidewalk as is. MOWING PRACTICES: A letter dated September 5, 1982, from Jeanne Wylie Torosian regarding the mowing practices of the Town was referred to this Committee. Director Widmer explained that the Town spends approximately $1,000 per year for mowing. The reasons for mowing are: (1) to protect the edge of the asphalt, and (2) for safety - to improve visibility along the highway. Director Widmer explained that the $1,000 expenditure was protecting the larger expenditure of the asphalt. The Committee does not wish to change the mowing practices of the Town at this time. RECREATION DISTRICT LETTER REGARDING STORM DRAINAGE: A letter from Robert Diers, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Recreation District, dated August 27, 1982, was referred to this Committee. Mr. Diers expressed concern regarding storm drainage from Eagle View which has caused a maintenance problem at the 18 hole golf course. Director Widmer explained to the Committee that there were no drainage requirements at the time the Eagle View development BRADFORD PUBLISHING CO., DENVER RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee - September 16, 1982 - Page 2 came before the Town and there was nothing we could do to help Mr. Diers. The Committee concurred that the problem would need to be worked out between the Recreation District and the Eagle View developers. The new Site Development Plan which was recently adopted will handle this situation in the future. STANIE JONES HOUSE ON WEST RIVERSIDE: The Committee recommends advertising the Jones house selling to the highest bidder. t/o-uv� REPORTS: for sale and tfwasti Director Widmer reported that the he and Water Superintendent Vic McCracken had decided to see if asphalt would work in Stanley Hills where drainage has been a problem at the intersection of Freeland Court and Steamer Drive. Director Widmer explained that asphalt would be placed in Freeland Court rather than install the culvert. The cost will be approximately $600 as opposed to the $3,000 for installing the culvert. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
