The need for a Gas Fitting Code was discussed at length.Building In
spector Hackett reported on information obtained from the Colorado School
of Mines;Mr.Coffee,Field Representative for the Copper Association
of American and Mr.Thomas Briggs,Field Representative for the Interna
tional Conference of Building Officials.Mr.Hackett reported it is the
consensus of opinion that the sulphur content of natural gas should not
exceed three parts per million in order to not be harmful to copper.
The Committee recouunends to the Board of Trustees that the Town adopt
the Gas Fitting Code known as Chapter 51 -Central City Code and that
the administrative section of the Uniform Mechanical Code be included
in the ordinance.It is also recommended a section be added,allowing
the Public Service Company to connect their gas system to existing
copper piping provided the Public Service Company will assume the lia
bility and responsibility for the safe installation and operation of
the gas piping systems.
Building Inspector Hackett discussed the problem of establishing mul
tiple occupancies in non-conforming buildings.The Committee decided
this was not a proper policy and the Building Inspector was instructed
to enforce the Building Code as it is now in effect.
The Building Inspector discussed the enforcement of the Sign Code,more
particularly the enforcement of the March 1,1968 date for all non
conforming signs to conform.The Committee instructed the Building
Inspector to advise all persons with non-conforming signs that the
Sign Code will be enforced.The Building Inspector was authorized
to allow persons in violation of the Code,a reasonable length of
time to conform.
There being no further business,the meeting adjourned.
