After considerable discussion,the Cormnittee recommends the Board of
Trustees of the Town of Estes Park amend the present sign ordinance as
follows:
1.12.12-2 (2)Projecting Building Signs.All projecting building
signs shall be constructed as provided in this section.No pro
jecting building sign shall project closer than four (4)feet to
the curb line,nor be lower than nine (9)feet from the existing
grade of the ground or sidewalk area immediately below the sign,
nor higher than twelve (12)feet above the highest exterior sur
face of the building to which such sign is attached nor thirty
eight (38)feet above the existing grade of the ground upon which
the building is constructed.No projecting building sign will ex
ceed a total sign area of one (1)square foot for each lineal foot
of lot frontage and further providing no one sign shall exceed three
hundred (300)square feet of sign area.There shall be only one (1)
projecting building sign per occupancy,as occupancy is defined in
the Uniform Building Code adopted by Section 11.1 of this Code.
2.12.12-2 (3)Free Standing Sign.All free standing signs shall
be constructed as provided in this section.No free standing sign
shall exceed thirty five (35)feet in height except that said height
may be increased by one (1)lineal foot for every four (4)lineal
feet which the sign is set back beyond the required building set
back line in the district in which the sign is located.However,
no sign shall exceed thirty eight (38)feet in height.No free
standing sign shall exceed a total sign area of one (1)square foot
for each lineal foot of lot frontage and further providing no one
sign shall exceed three hundred (300)square feet of sign area.No
free standing sign shall be erected closer than eight (8)feet from
any curb line,nor closer than four (4)feet to any building or
other structure,nor within the side or back yard line as provided
for in this chapter.There shall be not more than two (2)free
standing signs per occupancy and these signs shall not exceed the
combined total area of three hundred (300)square feet.
3.12.12-2 (6)Existing Signs Compliance.All existing signs shall
comply with this section before January 1,1979.Signs destroyed
by fire,wind or otherwise,or when more than fifty percent (507,)
thereof have been so destroyed or damaged,as determined by the
Town’s Building Inspector,shall conform with the provisions of
this section before being reconstructed or repaired.
4.12.12-2 (8)Sign Content -Location Limited -Rotating or Moving
Signs.The lettering and advertising matter on all signs within
the Town,except as herein provided,shall solely deal with and
clearly indicate the business done or services rendered upon such
premises and none other.No sign shall be placed upon any vacant
or unimproved property,except that it deal exclusively with the
sale,lease or transfer of such property.
No rotating or moving signs shall be permitted.
No signs shall be permitted in the E-l Estate District,E-2
Estate District,R-Residence District and R-1 Residence District

except:Name plate not exceeding two (2)square feet in area indi
cating the name of the occupant;identification signs for churches,
physicians,dentists,artist,musician,and the letting of rooms,
not to exceed six (6)square feet in area;one sign for each prop
erty or subdivision relating to the sale,lease or rental of said
property,not to exceed twelve (12)square feet in area.
5.12.12-2 (12)Temporary Signs.Temporary signs shall not exceed
one hundred fifty (150)square feet in area.
Temporary signs will be allowed only at such time as the
building is being constructed.Temporary signs shall not remain
in place for more than thirty (30)days,except however,that the
Building Official may extend the time period for an additional
thirty (30)days.Any further time extension shall thereafter be
applied for to the Board of Adjustment and the Board may grant
such time extension as seems reasonable and necessary.
(13)Directional Signs.Not withstanding other pro
of this section,directional signs of six (6)square feet
and not to exceed four (4)in number,shall be allowed.
There being no further business,the meeting adjourned.
