Horn, Norbert Aldrich, Terry Trumbo, Brad Sullivan, Mark Brown Trustee Margaret Houston 1984 ADVERTISING BUDGET REQUESTS: Ms. Maureen Marsh, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce Advertising Committee, presented the 1984 Advertising Budget requests. Ms. Marsh presented a graphic presentation of the Town's investment in advertising from 1980-1983; retail sales growth from 1980-1983; retail sales growth comparisons for the first two quarters of 1983 over that of 1982 (State of Colorado showed a 3.4% increase; Larimer County showed a 9.2% increase and Estes Park showed a 15.9% increase). Ms. Marsh stated that the figures indicate that the Town receives a three to one return on its advertising investment. The Chamber's primary market has been the front range, which provides 52% of the Town's sales tax revenues. Major changes from the 1983 budget are as follows: Television $35,000.00 Incoming Watts line 12,000.00 Handling and distribution 26,400.00 Development of new "Lure" brochure. 20,000.00 $93,400.00 A discussion followed on the increased sales in 1983 over 1982 during the months television spots were used. Mr. Dave Davis reported on the need to update the mailing brochure, which would be a two year project. The project development would occur in 1984 and the production stage would be implemented in 1985. Handling and distribtuion is the paperwork version of the Watts line. The 1984 investments summary is as follows: Media $172,107.50 Programs 73,900.00 Total Recommendations $246,007.50 A lengthy discussion followed on the Chamber's advertising goals, such as a central toll -free reservation system, more media coverage in the off-season such as late fall and Christmas; and a more unified effort between the Chamber and the Merchants Association, Accommodations Association and the Recreation District, et al. Chairman Hix complimented the Chamber of Commerce Advertising Committee on the excellent job they are doing. The Town will take the budget requests under advisement.
