1984 ADVERTISING BUDGET REQUESTS:
Ms. Maureen Marsh, Chairperson of the Chamber of Commerce Advertising
Committee, presented the 1984 Advertising Budget requests. Ms. Marsh
presented a graphic presentation of the Town's investment in advertising
from 1980-1983; retail sales growth from 1980-1983; retail sales growth
comparisons for the first two quarters of 1983 over that of 1982 (State
of Colorado showed a 3.4% increase; Larimer County showed a 9.2% increase
and Estes Park showed a 15.9% increase). Ms. Marsh stated that the
figures indicate that the Town receives a three to one return on its
advertising investment. The Chamber's primary market has been the
front range, which provides 52% of the Town's sales tax revenues.
Major changes from the 1983 budget are as follows:

Incoming Watts line 12,000.00
Handling and distribution 26,400.00

$93,400.00
A discussion followed on the increased sales in 1983 over 1982 during
the months television spots were used. Mr. Dave Davis reported on
the need to update the mailing brochure, which would be a two year
project. The project development would occur in 1984 and the production
stage would be implemented in 1985. Handling and distribtuion is
the paperwork version of the Watts line. The 1984 investments summary
is as follows:
Media $172,107.50
Programs 73,900.00
Total Recommendations $246,007.50
A lengthy discussion followed on the Chamber's advertising goals,
such as a central toll -free reservation system, more media coverage
in the off-season such as late fall and Christmas; and a more unified
effort between the Chamber and the Merchants Association, Accommodations
Association and the Recreation District, et al. Chairman Hix complimented
the Chamber of Commerce Advertising Committee on the excellent job
they are doing. The Town will take the budget requests under advisement.
