Advertising and Public Relations Committee
Committee: Chairperson Houston, Trustees Dannels and Rumley
Attending: All
Also Attending: Town Administrator Hill
1979 BUDGET REQUESTS:
COLORADO CHAMBER ORCHESTRA - Mr. Charles E. Chaffin submitted a request
for $2,500 for the remainder of 1978 and $10,000 per year for the next
six years in support of the Colorado Chamber Orchestra's summer con-
certs in Estes Park. $2,500 of the $10,000, he explained, would be
given to the Fine Arts Guild which has been supporting the Colorado
Chamber Orchestra. The Committee took the request under advisement.
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - Chamber Manager Ron Carney presented the second
quarterly advertising report, summaries of the Tourist Information
Center visitor count and mail inquiries, a proposed survey to be dis-
tributed among tourists, and an advertising plan and various materials
for 1979. He requested that the advertising agreement between the
Chamber of Commerce and the Town be amended as follows:
1. The wording "radio, newspaper, brochures" be omitted from Fall
and Winter Advertising (2 C. & D.) to allow more flexibility
in the type of media used for advertising.
2. "Direct Advertising" be defined.
Mr. Carney also requested the Town consider budgeting 7.2% of the sales
tax revenues for advertising annually and in accordance with this
formula, requested $40,315 for 1979 advertising.
Mr. Frank Normali, owner of the Stanley Hotel, expressed his opinion
to the Committee that his business was not receiving fair treatment
from the Chamber of Commerce because he is not a Chamber member. He
felt that members and nonmembers should be treated equally by the
Chamber of Commerce because Town funds are used for advertising.
The Committee took the Chamber's budget request, proposed changes to
the agreement, and Mr. Normali's remarks under advisement.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
