HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1971-02-04nfl RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee February 4,1971 Committee:Chairman Steele;Trustees Tregent and Prosser Attending:Chairman Steele;Trustees Tregent and Prosser Also Attending:Street Superintendent McCracken,Town Administrator Hill HOSPITAL ADDITION PIAT: The Committee reviewed the plat as per the request of the Estes Park Planning Commission.The Public Works Committee recoimnends the extension of Fir Avenue in a southwesterly direction be dedicated as a “part width” street as per section 21.7-1(1)of the Municipal Code.The minimum width of this “part width”street shall be 40 feet.The Committee also recommends that the present Town limits on the north and east be indicated along with the dimensions as required by C.R.S.139-21-6(v). NEW ROAD TO FISH CREEK: The new road from Community Drive to Fish Creek will require a corrugated steel tube five feet in diameter and sixty feet long.The cost of this tube is reported by Superintendent McCracken to be $16.60 less 10 or net, $14.94 per foot.The estimated total cost of this tube is $986.04 in cluding bands.The Committee recommends this tube be purchased at the earliest possible date. Freight charges are reported by Miller Freight Line to be $4.76 CWT or an estimated total freight cost of $167.93.Comparative freight charges by Thompson Pipe &Steel were $188.37 and Watson Freight Line,$174.28. The Committee recommended Miller Freight Line be used to haul the tube. 01])FURNACE ROOM: The Committee recommends the Estes Park Chamber of Commerce be permitted to use the old furnace room in the Police and Fire building on a tempor ary basis for the storage of brochures.This permission is only temporary and,upon request of the Town of Estes Park,the room will be vacated immediately. INSURANCE ON CHAMBER OF C0NIERCE BUILDING: After considerable discussion,the Committee recommends the Town of Estes Park place the Chamber of Commerce building on the town’s policy for fire, extended coverage and vandalism for a total amount of $20,000.The pre mium on this will be $91.60 per year. STANLEY PARK IMPROVEMENTS: The Committee recommends that: 1.Three additional tack stalls,similar to the ones built at Stanley Park last year,be constructed.The Town will advertise for bids to be received by the Board of Trustees on February 22nd. These bids will be referred to the Horse Show &Rodeo Committee for a recommendation.The Horse Show &Rodeo Committee will pro vide the funds to construct the tack stalls. 2.The Committee recommends the Light &Power Department and the Water Department work with the Horse Show Committee to provide an improved area for necessary campers.The Horse Show Committee RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Page two Public Works Committee February 4,1971 feels the campers must be moved from the barn area.Moving this facility will require some electric outlets and a hose bib. 3.The Horse Show Committee is investigating the advisability of installing a 1,000 gallon concrete holding tank for sanitary wastes somewhere on the rodeo grounds. TRASH RECEPTACLES: The Committee recommends the Town owned trash receptacles be fastened down to the sidewalks.Trash receptacles in other areas will be fastened to concrete pads. NEWSPAPER RACKS ON THE SIDEWALKS: Section 15.5 of the Municipal Code controls the placement of such items as newspaper racks on sidewalks.The Committee discussed the problem of the apparent over abundance of newspaper racks on our sidewalks.These racks have caused some problems with snow removal.The Committee de cided to table any recommendations on this subject until the next meeting.
