HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1972-11-01RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Coim:nittee November 1,1972 Page two DARK HORSE PARKING LOT: The Town Engineer reported the Flatiron Paving Company has agreed to place new curbing in the Dark Horse parking lot at one half the cost (one half of $2,065.00 =$1,037.50).Flatiron Paving has also agreed to repair these curbs as they exist now at no cost.After considerable discussion,the Committee directed the Town Engineer to contact Flatiron Paving and make arrangements for repair of the existing curbs with an agreement from them that if these are not satisfactory the above agree ment for total replacement will be implemented. WHEEL CHAIR RAMPS: The Town Engineer reported wheel chair ramps could be installed on each corner at an estimated cost of $230.00.The Committee recommended tabling this project until the sewer work on Elkhorn Avenue is completed. PARK THEATER SIDEWALK: The Town Engineer reported a sidewalk was installed by the Park Theater owner without a permit.The owner has been directed to remove this sidewalk,obtain proper permits and install same to Town’s specifications. MAIL BOXES NEAR POST OFFICE: The attached maps show the proposal to install two mail boxes in the center of Ivy Street.The estimated cost of this installation is $650.00. The Committee recommends the Town proceed with this project. EAST RIVERSIDE DRIVE STORM SEWER: The Town Engineer reported this project is now in progress and will be completed soon. STANLEY PARK STRAW PILE: The Committee authorized the Street Superintendent and Town Engineer to proceed with plans for the disposal of this straw on MacGregor ranch if no other solution is immediately available. NEW BRIDGES: The Town Engineer and Street Superintendent are to report back to the Committee on new bridge needs for 1973.The Town Administrator will check with the Larijuer County officials on the availability of the county bridge crew. ALLEY -THOMAS RESUBDIVISION: Mr.Bob Copper has suggested an alley be dedicated to the Town on the south side of the Thomas Resubdivision.The Committee recommends the Town accept a dedicated alley in this location if the traveled width is not less than twenty feet and the individual property owners will be responsible for the original construction according to Town speci fications. Approximate costs...25O Put new roof (not just roofing)on Rodeo booth.Build rack for the loud speakers separate from the roof.Estimated cost.....2OO. Two additional tack stalls at ends of barns.Cost l,OO.OO ___ Re-weld hinges,where needed,on rodeo and arena gates. At h Stanley Field Municipally Owned East Edge of 5,, Town 1.The Dog Pond should be removed and this space used for additional shower facilities,or exhibitors’toilets. 2.Dual speakers on the arena entrance gate,with one toward trailer—camper area;other toward arena.Entire system needs expert engineering. Improve angle and size of drainage outlets at front of grandstand. Rebuild,after engineering,arena sprinkling system,wthh heads that are out of the way and not injure people or horses. Trailer hookups are too close together,thus wasted.Or put short units on tract.Official should assign spaces. 6.Hook onto city sewer if possible. 7.Put additional water outlets on west ends of Barns A-B-O-P-Q. 8.Install culvert on east Exhibitor roadway. The entire arena needs more sand.This might be ob tained when the Bureau is doing its annual lake cleaning. The tractor bucket needs six teeth for bedding pickup. The town shop has the nedessary material and knowledge. Tractor should get overhaul this winter,at either Town or Rodeo expense,and door should immediately be installed on Rodeo Grounds pickup (about 35.0O) 1.Hay—Straw barn should be constructed as soon as possible.Roof and west protection,wire netting all around,high enough to permit tractor-trailer entry. Hay and straw storage impossible in barns for barn—burning reasons. stall for the show. Horses and exhibitors shall have access to the grounds not earlier than two days before the show,and shall vacate not later than 5 p.m.of the day following the close if the show or event. If there Is no show or conflicting event,horses may occupy stalls at the rqte of l.50 per day,per stall. Prior permission required for this additional usage. 2.Sornethlng must be done to facilitate cleaning of the grandstand for paying customers’during the shows. It is suggested that a person be hired whose sole duty will be grandstand and toilet maintenance and care,the cost to be shared by the Lions Club concessionnaire and the Rodeo committee.The boxes must be cleaned between the “free”shows and the paid performances;volunteer ushers,plus this paid person, could get the job done whereas now it is practically impossible. 3.A drinking fountain is needed either outside the grandstand or in the public oilets.We realize that the former fountain was torn out by the roots.
