HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1972-07-19fl RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee July 19,1972 Committee:Chairman Dannels;Trustees Petrocine and Prosser Attending:Chairman Dannels;Trustees Petrocine and Prosser Also Attending:Town Administrator Hill,Street Superintendent McCracken,Town Planner and Engineer Van Horn, Light &Power Superintendent Dekker SERVICE AREA: The Committee discussed the PCR Service Area Report at length. Following this discussion the following recommendations are made to the Board of Trustees: 1.The Light and Power Department facilities (pole yard,ware house and garage)should be moved to the land fill area on Spur 66.This move should be scheduled as soon as possible. 2.A development plan for the new service area should be com pleted prior to any move. 3.PCR &Associates should be requested to submit a proposal to the Town regarding the development plan. 4.The development plan should include all Town facilities and the proposed “Tourist Information Center”. 5.The Chamber of Commerce request regarding the “Tourist Informa tion Center”should be acted upon after the development plan is completed and accepted. BUDGET -1973: The Committee will hold a special meeting to study capital requirements for 1973.Department supervisors shall submit definite written requests prior to this meeting. GLICK BROS.CURB CUT: Glick Bros.have submitted a curb cut request onto the Highway 34 By-pass. The Committee recommends this request be tabled until the State Highway Department can be contacted regarding curb cut policy on the entire length of the by-pass. SAFETY INSPECTION: The Royal Globe Insurance Company submitted a safety inspection report dated July 7,1972.This report contains sixteen suggestions.The Committee made the following recommendations: Suggestion:#4 Library exit lights -install now. #5 Safety railing near the public restroom should be installed.The Town Engineer and Street Superin tendent will complete this job. #6 Loose rock above the parking Lot No.1 cliff is continually being removed. #7 Bleachers at the north side of the rodeo grounds have been properly mounted. (‘ RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee July 19,1972 Page two #8 Back safety railing on bleacher not necessary. #9 Bleachers have been repaired. #10 West side bleachers have been leveled. #11 West side bleachers have been repaired. #12 Back safety railing not necessary. #13 Light and power will tighten or install safety cables. #14 A safety locking latch will be irtalled on the access gate from the rodeo ring to the grandstand for the present latch is not adequate. #15 The liability at 325 Moraine Avenue will be reviewed. #16 A CO-2 fire extinguisher will be provided for the library kitchen. INFECTED TREES: Superintendent McCracken reported several trees infected by beetles and mistletoe.Superintendent McCracken will have the trees removed for the wood or do on the job as ‘make work’project. PARKING LOT IMPROVENENTS: Town Engineer Van Horn reported that the curb problems on the Dark Horse parking lot will be resolved this fall.Beautification on park ing Lot #2 will be completed next year with the addition of aspen trees.The new ticket booth is finished except for securing the booth to the ground.The Dark Horse and Post Office lots will be landscaped in 1973.Mr.Van Horn will submit a suggested plan for the post office letter boxes to the next committee meeting. ANNEXATIONS: 1.Fall River Area:Town Engineer Van Horn reported his office is completing the plotting of the Fall River Area for annexa tion and they should be ready for a preliminary meeting with the owners about the first of August. 2.Islands:The owners of the island on the South Saint Vram are agreeable to annexation but decline to initiate the same. The Committee recommends no action on this annexation at this time. 3.The Cliff:The Committee recommends that the Abells be con tacted regarding the annexation of the island behind the Mobil Station and that the Town proceed. 4.Carriage Hills:The owners of Carriage Hills have indicated through Nelson,Haley,Patterson and Quirk that they will request annexation of approximately 75 acres.Several items regarding this annexation must be resolved. WHEEL CHAIR RAMPS: The Committee instructed Town Engineer Van Horn to present proposed wheel chair ramps at the main intersection along with cost estimates to the next Committee meeting. cc) RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Conmiittee July 19,1972 Page three The remaining items on the agenda were tabled due to the lateness of the hour.
