HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Public Works Committee 1973-12-05-/Th RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Public Works Committee December 5,1973 Committee:Chairman Dannels;Trustees Petrocine and Prosser Attending:Chairman Dannels;Trustees Petrocine and Prosser Also Attending:Town Administrator Hill,Town Engineer/Planner Van Horn VISITORS CENTER: Mr.Jim Guyer and Mr.Ron Reiland of the Chamber of Commerce presented a proposed “memorandum of understanding”regarding the new tourist information center. In addition to the costs of adding a deceleration and acceleration lane to the highway,the estimated cost to the Town would be $35,850.00.These costs are based on 1973 construction prices. The Committee recommends the Board of Trustees go on record as being in favor of budgeting,at some future time,enough funds to provide the following: 1.Outside lighting; 2.Surface parking lot on the North side of the river; 3.Provide necessary entrance and exit to the above parking lot; 4.Add additional parking,bridges and landscaping in the future as required; 5.Provide continuing maintenance for the grounds surrounding the information center; 6.The Town will request permission from the U.S.Government to use necessary abutting ground. The Chamber of Commerce shall be responsible for the following: 1.Total cost of the tourist information center construction; 2.Total cost of the basic (graveled nd graded)parking lot on the North side of the river; 3.Total cost of landscaping on tI’e North side of the river. The Committee also recommends the Chamber of Commerce be required to provide (to the satisfaction of the Town)adequate financing prior to the beginning of the tourist information center. MEETING ROOMS-NEW BUILDING: The Committee discussed at length the pros and cons of charging for the use of meeting rooms in the new Municipal Building. The Committee recommends the Town not chargG for the rooms.The method of assigning rooms for meetings will be the same as at present. DRAPES-NEW BUILDING: The Committee authorized the Town Administrator to accept the drapery bid of Seal Furniture,Inc.,in the amount of $6,070.00. RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS STREET SUPERINTENDENT: Mr.Bill Van Horn,Director of Public Works,described the procedure used in obtaining applications for the position of Street Superintendent.Approxi mately 25 applications were received. The Committee recommends the Board of Trustees appoint Mr.Jack Ford as Street Superintendent effective January 1,1974. SNOW PLOW: Mr.Bill Van Horn,Director of Public Works,informed the Committee a new snow plow was needed to give the Town the necessary equipment to effectively remove snow.This machine should be a medium size four wheel drive dump truck with both spreader and plow.The cost of this equipment is estimated to be about $20,000.00.The Committee discussed the possibility of using Revenue Sharing Funds for this equipment.The Committee authorized Mr.Van Horn to investigate this plow and report back to the Committee. NEW TOWN MAP: Mr.Van Horn reported that Mr.Venditty is now working full time on the new Town map.The map should be completed shortly after the first of the year. NEW MUNICIPAL BUIlDING: The Committee will tour the new Municipal Building on Thursday,December 13, 1973,at 1:45 P.M.
