HomeMy WebLinkAboutMINUTES Street Committee 1965-04-08nfl RECORD OF PROCEEDINGS Street Committee April 8,1965 Committee:Chairman Harry Tregent,Trustees flannels and Swanson Attending:Chairman Harry Tregent,Trustees flannels and Swanson Also Attending:Superintendent V.I.McCracken,Town Clerk Dale C.Hill Mr.George Peck,Jr.,Postmaster,appeared before the Committee and asked their consideration on the following items: 1.Problem resulting from automobiles parking on the sidewalk in front of the Post Office.The Committee decided this was a problem for the Police Committee and referred it to this committee. 2.A “no parking”sign is needed on the street in front of the Post Office.The Committee recommends this sign be painted as soon as weather permits. Mr.Peck suggested a stop sign at the intersection of Stanley Avenue and Stanley Circle.The Committee discussed this and recommends a sign be placed at this intersection. The Committee recommends the crosswalk on Moraine Drive be moved from its present location between the Trans Company and the laundry to a point about 50 feet north to the southeast corner of the Legion parking lot. The Committee discussed at length the problem of snow removal in the downtown business district.This problem will be discussed again at the next meeting of the Street Committee. The Street Committee instructed Superintendent McCracken to check necessary repairs on curb and gutter and notify the affected property owners. The water drainage problem at the Irene Brinkley property on Virginia Drive was discussed. The Committee discussed at length the desirability of widening Virginia Drive to 60 feet.Town Attorney Hartwell’s letter of January 18,1965, was read to the Committee.The Street Committee recommends that Town Engineer Paul Van Horn proceed with the necessary negotiation with the affected property owners as suggested by the Town Attorney.
