ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN -PUBLIC BUILDINGS -TOURIST INFORMATION CENTER:
Mr.Floyd Reister and Mr.Charles Hazelwood of DMJM-Phillips.Reister
met with the Committee and Chamber of Commerce representatives Manager
Corky Rogers,Président Barbara Murphy,Vice President Bob Mobus and
Board of Director member Bill Scott.
Mr.Reister recommended that all public buildings not be of the
Municipal Building architectural design. The buildings in Tallant
Park should be designed so that they all harmonize. The public
restroom in parking lot number 2 should be of the same style as
the library. The new public restroom planned for 1975 need not
be the same style as the present public restrooms.
Mr.Reister presented preliminary drawings of his ideas for the
Tourist Information Center. The building should be an “eye catcher”,
and not a box type standard design. The design of the center
building should attract attention.
Mr.Reister suggested the limited budget of the Chamber of Commerce
would not by itself fund a proper building. He proposed a coopera
tive building by joining the Tallant Park restrooms with the Tourist
Information Center.Preliminary cost estimates by Mr.Reister are
as follows:
Chamber of Commerce $30,000 to $40,000
Town $20,000 to $30,000
$50,000 $70,000
The Public Works Committee recommends the Board of Trustees work
with the Chamber of Commerce on some type of joint funding either
in connection with the federal funding for Tallant Park or some
other funding programs.
The Public Works Committee will review the 1975 budget prior to any
further recommendations regarding the Tourist Information Center.
