N.C.R.PROPOSAL:
Light and Power Director Dekker presented a proposal submitted by
N.C.R.Corporation for hardware and software equipment which
would enable adding the Light and Power Department inventory to
the main—frame computer.Three personal computers and two CRT
units were quoted;Director Dekker and Finance Officer Vavra
recommended the PC—4 System 2,Inventory System software,Inven
tory System Installation,Catalogue Maintenance and Print Pro
grams, and “Below Minimum”Report for a package estimate of
$15,828;the cables are estimated to be approximately $300,
thereby making the total package $16,128±.The package price
does not include the printer. The PC-4 System 2 could be used as
a “stand alone”unit or be connected to the main—frame computer.
In addition to the inventory, processing of work orders and
related items would be computerized.Initially, entry work would
be performed by the Finance Department;eventually all inventory
and related items would be processed by the Light and Power
Department.Water Superintendent Bob Richards would like to have
the Water Department’s inventory included.Director Dekker
stated time did not permit a request for proposal from anyother
firm, such as IBM.The Committee recommends Light and Power
Director Dekker be authorized to purchase the NCR PC-4 System 2,
including equipment,in the amount of $16,128±pending a “compa
rable or better”proposal from another firm.Should the second
proposal exceed $16,128,Light and Power Director Dekker will
return to the Committee for further review.
