Although the intention is to provide an integrated architectural character developed through a visual collection of coordinated materials and colors, other design strategies than those illustrated with these guidelines, may be considered if they contain a coherent and rich architectural vocabulary with durable and attractive exterior materials. 2. STANLEY PARK,ESTES PARK,COLORADO Architectural Design Criteria General Requirements As indicated earlier,it is the intent of the Town of Estes Park that the architectural character of Stanley Park shall be refined over a period of years, through new construction and renovations, guided by these architectural design guidelines. This architectural character shall imbue a timeless, natural Rocky Mountain character, using sc)und architectural, planning, and environmental design practices.Although building materials and colors will be an important part of creating and maintaining the Town’s goal,a number of general issues are dealt with here and apply throughout the Stanley Park property. 1.Mechanical equipment on rooftops shall be screened. 2.Utility infrastructure, such as transformers, condensers, and mechanical equipment, shall be screened by landscaping and/or opaque fencing or walls. 3.Roofs shall be primarily of gable configuration with slopes between 3:12 and 5:12.Hip roof configurations may be used for accent or special feature, but no “mineshaft shed”or “arched”roof configurations will be allowed.Snow guards will be required on all roofs, with commercially sized gutters and downspouts. The introduction of decorative or functional cupolas is allowed and will be reviewed on a case by case basis. 4.Eaves shall project from buildings three feet (3’)to six feet (6’),depending on the scale of the structure, with some features of architectural interest, such as exposed beams, brackets, kickers,or corbelling. 5.Care shall be taken in achieving proportionate, orderly and interesting façades by utilizing varied materials to express structure and create visual rhythm.Offsets in the building’s façade of at least eight inches (8”)will be required on walls of sixty feet (60’)or more in length. 6.Masonry wainscoting materials shall be required at all buildings to create a substantial architectural base character and to protect the lower portion of the wall from physical and environmental damage. 3. STANLEY PARK,ESTES PARK,COLORADO Architectural Design Criteria Materials and Color Materials used in the construction or rehabilitation of structures at Stanley Park shall be high quality, durable, code compliant and aesthetically conforming with these Design Criteria.Architectural materials and colors play a very important role in visually defining architectural character.A palette of natural earth-toned finish materials, such as stone and wood, are encouraged and are well suited relative to a “refined Rocky Mountain rustic”building character. However, recognizing that additional materials, besides stone and wood, will be utilized in the construction of new and remodeled structures at Stanley Park, the following materials and finishes are listed as preferred for use on the buildings.Optional or related materials and colors will be considered on a case by case basis.final approval of both materials and colors shall be by the project Architect and Public Utilities Department of the Town of Estes Park.
