Estes Park, CO 80517 VAN HORN ENGINEERING AND SURVEYING RE: Geologic Hazards and Blasting on Lot 9 of Prospect Highlands Subdivision Dear Mr. Fraundorf: This letter is provided to address your proposed construction and related excavation on Lot 9 of the Prospect Highlands Subdivision and the existing Geologic conditions of the site. While blasting is not anticipated for construction, the requirement of such is a real possibility. The following references are included: • Attached are copies of Pages 5 and 6 of the Geologic Hazard Evaluation for the original subdivision. The portions of the text underlined are emphasized as mitigation efforts or safety precautions. • Attached are copies of Pages 45-47, and 53-55 of the Explosive Regulations of the Colorado State Division of Labor regarding Blasting. The name and contact information for a Geologist and a Pre -blast inspector is also offered (see margins). If blasting is required, it is suggested that you employ either of the above to help protect yourself from future legal claims. In addition to the above, the following mitigation/safety efforts are recommended: • Prior to construction, silt fencing shall be installed downstream of all proposed disturbed areas to minimize off -site sediment transportation. Installation shall be in accordance with CDOT M&S standards, or the Larimer County Stormwater Manual standards. • Concentrated flow paths downstream of areas proposed to be disturbed shall include straw bale sediment dams in accordance with CDOT or the Larimer County Stormwater Manual standards. • Disturbed areas shall be re -seeded with a native seed mix (example attached) to hold the soil and minimize sediment transportation long term. Sloped soil areas (steeper than 3:1) should be erosion control blanketed with a biodegradable erosion and sediment control blanket of at least %z pound per square yard density. 1043 Fish Creek Road • Estes Park, Colorado 80517 • 970-586-9388 • Fax 970-586-8101 • E-mail: vhe@airbits.com • Care should be taken in moving the rounded boulders on site to avoid a roll away incident and to protect structures, property, and people downhill. If re -used on site, these rounded boulders should be securely embedded in soil beds to prevent future dislodging. I have walked the site and feel that if the above items are addressed, construction on this site can result in a safe project. I am happy to review any areas of concern that may be encountered as the project progresses to determine if further consultation is necessary.
