The Board of Adjustment considered a request for a sign variance (Section 17.66.300) for the Kentucky Fried Chicken located at 820 Moraine Avenue. Mr. R. J. Mangelsen, representing the owner, explained that the sign will be placed on the front of a four-sided cupola, which is the central theme for an image enhancement program for the Kentucky Fried Chicken. Mr. Mangelsen also pointed out that the building location is 10' below the elevation of the highway. Member A1 Sager questioned Mr. Green (Kentucky Fried Chicken Representative) and Mr. Mangelsen about the possibility of moving the cupola ahead 4" eliminating the need for a variance. Planner Cole questioned Mr. Green about another architectural drawing for the image enhancement program. Mr. Green stated that this could probably be done at an added cost. The following correspondence in favor of the variance was received from: Edward L. Peterson .................................2/08/84 After a lengthy discussion. Member A1 Sager moved for denial of the request based on the fact that there were alternatives to accommodate their sign in a reasonable manner. Member Jerry Lamson seconded the motion and it passed by the following votes: Those voting "Yes" Members Sager, Lamson, Houston and Wood. Those voting "No" Chairman Wagner.
